"Lucifer" Bosses Officially on Board for Potential Season 6 at Netflix
by Michael Ausiello February 28, 2020 If "Lucifer" returns for a sixth season at Netflix, it will do so with its primary creative team in tact. TVLine has learned exclusively that co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson have closed new deals to remain at the helm of the death-defying drama for a potential Season 6. I'm told that a deal with leading man Tom Ellis is still under negotiations. https://tvline.com/2020/02/28/lucife...eturn-netflix/ |

Tom Ellis finalizes Lucifer deal, paving the way for Season 6 renewal
Ellis' new contract extension to continue playing the title character on the Netflix series beyond Season 5 "all but clears the way for the series’ Season 6 renewal at Netflix," according to TVLine, which reported last week that co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson inked new deals to return for Season 6. TVLine also reports that "many — if not all — of Ellis’ co-stars have existing deals that carry them through Season 6." Netflix has been in talks with Warner Bros. to bring back Lucifer after the streaming service announced last June that it had renewed the DC Comics-based series for a fifth and "final" season. |

"Lucifer" Season 6 in Jeopardy over Potential Tom Ellis Contract Dispute
by Matt Webb Mitovich April 17, 2020 All hell is threatening to break loose behind the scenes at "Lucifer" as a result of a brewing contract dispute involving the series’ titular star. Multiple sources tell TVLine exclusively that re-negotiations between Tom Ellis and Warner Bros. Television for a potential sixth season of the Netflix drama have come to a standstill, with the actor allegedly rejecting the studio’s latest offer. As TVLine reported earlier this year, Ellis already has a Season 6 deal in place, so depending on the circumstances, his failure to honor the existing deal would put him in breach of contract. Despite having what appears to be the legal upper hand, Warner Bros. TV has, per sources, gone back and “sweetened the pot” multiple times. “Everyone wants Tom to be happy,” says the insider. “But there’s a limit, and it’s been reached.” Reps for both Netflix and Warner Bros. Television declined to comment for this story. Ellis’ spokesperson similarly had no comment. https://tvline.com/2020/04/17/lucife...spute-leaving/ |

"Lucifer" Renewed for Sixth & Final Season at Netflix
by Nellie Andreeva June 23, 2020 It’s official — Netflix has ordered a sixth season of "Lucifer", which will be its last. The announcement acknowledges the fact that the streamer previously renewed the series for a fifth season, which also was billed as final, calling Season 6 "FINAL final." https://deadline.com/2020/06/lucifer...ix-1202967271/ |

Lucifer to tackle Black Lives Matter in a Season 6 episode in response to police show criticism
"When we got back to the (writers) room, we started looking at the fact that we're a cop show and in what ways have we contributed or not addressed the systemic issues of the police department. And we decided we wanted to speak to it," executive producer Ildy Modrovich tells ET. "So we're actually doing a story that speaks directly to it, and we're super excited about it." Modrovich, who will be writing the episode, the season's sixth, admitted that "I feel nervous about it because I want to get it right." Fellow executive producer Joe Henderson added: "What we did want to do was speak to the cultural reckoning we're all going through and, I think, we'll be continuing to go through, and our place in it and our responsibility to say something." Lucifer on Netflix continues being the ideal version of the series "While Lucifer on Netflix is not drastically different from Lucifer on network television, it’s arguably the ideal version of the series that showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich always wanted to create," says LaToya Ferguson. "No, that ideal version of the series isn’t a pure adaptation of the source material either, but it’s a fun genre series with a great love for both its characters and the mythology of the world in which they inhabit. And that world is always getting more interesting. Season One was a grimier version of the show, seemingly the result of being developed by Tom Kapinos, with Len Wiseman’s directorial eye. Season Two ushered in the show as we’ve come to know it, visually, tonally, and thematically, the network season closest in concept and quality to what we would come to see of the show on Netflix. Season Three was the result of, in retrospect, a lot of network notes that resulted in that network canceling the show. Then Season Four introduced the streamlined version of Lucifer, amplifying the positives of the series established in its second season and showing that it had learned from its mistakes in its third. Lucifer is back now for its second Netflix season. Initially intended as the final season—a concept that really informs the progression of the Lee/'Mr. Said Out Bitch' (Jeremiah Birkett) premiere runner—it will be interesting to watch both halves of this season with that (and the ultimate pivot from that) in mind. Especially with the Devil in Hell/Florida (same difference) and his evil twin (also played by Tom Ellis) doing evil twin things." ALSO:

How Lucifer changed course after getting a sixth season
"One of the things we realized, especially looking back, was that, yes, we had an entire act of story that we lopped off but, boy, were we relieved. Because as we started backing ourselves into it, we (realized), 'Oh man, we backed ourselves into a corner,'" says co-showrunner Joe Henderson. "There was so much story, that we didn’t realize until we got there, that we want to unpack. So Season 6 became this gift of being able to go, 'Oh, we can actually dramatize this. We can actually live in this. We can actually tell these stories, and find new stories.' Which is what we always do. When Season 5 was going to be 10 episodes and then became 16, at first we (were) like, 'There’s no way it can be 16!' And then it was like, 'There’s no way it can’t be 16.' That’s the same thing that was here. This ended up being a gift, it ended up be a boon. And we were able to just expand all that. But that’s all that changed. There was a question of where we ended the season. And we look back, we’re like, 'Oh, yeah this is the ending. Yeah, this is it.'" ALSO:

I'm excited with the final season but, I wonder what will be the story. I'm already okay with the first half ending so I don't know what to expect now. Nevertheless, I love his character and will always be!

Let's just wait for September to finally answer our questions. Ideally, the ending on the last season was already okay except for the part of Ella since there's no disclosure on her part.

Lucifer is a one-of-a-kind show that deserves more recognition
The fantasy drama that dropped its sixth and final season on Netflix on Friday is a "multilayered, consistently diverting treat, especially once you get past the first five episodes of the debut season—which are heavy on procedural fare, and lighter on the juicy mythology that helped the drama, by midway through its first season, ascend to a higher plane," says Maureen Ryan. "As the show found its groove, Lucifer’s deft melding of imaginative character arcs, its compassionate exploration of the abandonment, rejection and insecurity most of its characters feel, and its frisky, good-hearted humor made it one of a kind. It stands out even more in a TV landscape that’s increasingly full of dramas that take themselves seriously while under-delivering on numerous crucial fronts. Lucifer is also, under its witty exterior, quite respectful not just of faith, but of the difficulty of overcoming deep psychic wounds. (Lucifer, naturally, sees a therapist.) If nothing else, Lucifer provides an object lesson in how to take a TV narrative initially centered on an entitled white man with serious daddy issues, broaden it in dozens of smart ways, and make it not just sex-positive, energetic, inclusive and smart, but surprisingly deep and humane. Over the years, the drama and its ensemble were so quietly good at what they did that, outside of the passionate fandom that helped rescue it from that shocking Fox cancellation, too few people noticed Lucifer had evolved into one of the most enjoyable and consistently excellent shows on television."
