Default Jeopardy! Has Narrowed Down Its Permanent Host Search to Three Contenders

Some of you will remember mriggles who used to post here. He is close friends with someone on the Jeopardy! staff, so sometimes gets inside info he posts on Facebook (and no I am not telling you his real name if you don't know it to protect his privacy). This is the post he made tonight.

"Dr. Sanjay Gupta begins his 2 week run as Jeopardy Guest host tonight. The Decision on who will be the Permanent Host of Jeopardy is being made now. The suits at Sony have it narrowed down to 3 people, and they will make a final decision in the next week or 2, and the plan is to announce it in Mid to late July. Production for season 38 with the New host at the helm is scheduled to begin on Tuesday July 27th."

The names of who the final three contenders are were left out of his post of course. Anyone who hasn't guest hosted yet is likely just filling time, Levar Burton fans won't be happy. Ken Jennings certainly has to be one though considering he got six weeks, at least three times as much as anyone else has had. They probably want a woman as one of the contenders and Mayim Bialik has gotten a lot of positive response. That leaves the third finalist. I sure hope it isn't Aaron Rodgers. That total dullard has way too much support, Mike Richards has said he would be willing to work around Aaron's NFL schedule. Sony so needs to overrule him and ignore Aaron's campaigning for the job. Hopefully the third finalist is Buzzy Cohen. He needs to tone down his loudness some, but otherwise was a great host. Anderson Cooper was surprisingly good, but I doubt he would have time with all his news jobs.

Ken Jennings should be a lock. After all, he won the Jeopardy Greatest of All Time in early 2020. (On a side note, I find it ironic that they had the Greatest of All Time episodes during the last year of Alex’s life.)

It was like ABC was psychic knowing Alex Trebek would die later that year.

I cast my vote for Mayim Bialik. She's very bright and handled the show very well. It would be groundbreaking to have a female host one of TV's best known game shows. The number of women game show hosts has grown over the last 10 years with Elizabeth Banks hosting Press Your Luck, Jane Lynch with Hollywood Game Night and Meredith Viera on 25 Words or Less. Bialik would be a great addition but first I'm curious to see how Levar Burton does.

I would vote for Ken. And I think Alex would have wanted Ken. But I fear the producers will cave to the woke culture.

Regarding LeVar Burton, how many years do you see him realistically hosting Jeopardy! based on his current age? I'm more worried about him croaking while still on the job just like Alex Trebek did. It's not like Mr. Burton has any serious health problems or anything.

If NONE of the guests hosts this season are selected, and they do end-up going with an unknown, can we PLEASE just get a fresher and younger personality to host Jeopardy!, please? I'm also worried about taking any of these guest-hosts away from their other endeavors. Not sure about any other former Jeopardy! contestants, either; what if there's another mega tournament in the future that he'll want to participate in (similar to the Ultimate Tournament of Champions or the Battle of the Decades)?

James, Just how young do you want someone to be to host? Some of the 50-60 year older may want to do the show 10 years. Is Jeopardy looking for a host to host til he dies? Never thought of that. Although I like Jeopardy does the show have to go on forever. How many more years are Pat and Vanna going to go on Wheel of Fortune - till each is 90?

I don't get this. Anybody at any age can die at anytime, unfortunately.

A friend of mine (though he had health issues) died in his sleep from a heart attack at 34. My mother's step-brother died from a heart attack at 32. She told me he came home from work and sat at the dining room table for dinner. He told his wife that he "wasn't feeling well" and she stepped in the kitchen to get him a wet cloth and he was dead at the table when she returned. He reportedly had no known health issues and it is possible that he had something that wasn't diagnosed, but we do not know.

Just because someone is younger doesn't mean they are going to live longer. Also, 64 isn't that old and Burton could host "Jeopardy!" for possibly 15 years or so.

Apparently you must not have saw my post on the "Who Should Replace Alex Trebek?" thread:

And on the subject of Ken Jennings, who is already slated for a guest-hosting stint this month: I'm not sure is any former Jeopardy! contestants should become permanent hosts, either.
Just don't select anyone who was born before that point. I don't want the new permanent host of Jeopardy! dying while still on the job just like Alex did, naturally or otherwise. These type of situations are never okay.

Well, there's nothing anyone can do to prevent that from happening. As I said, anybody at any age can die at anytime.

Oh, so now you're saying it IS okay for people, regardless of how long their career tenure is, to die while still on the job, and you really DO want LeVar Burton to become Jeopardy!'s permanent host?

Also, what about gunshot wounds and car accidents? At least they're preventable, unlike cancer.

Huh?? What the hell are you talking about?

What can be done to stop people dying while on “the job”? No, I don’t have a problem with LeVar Burton being “Jeopardy!’s” host, but it’s not my decision to make.

^^JamesG, it is clear that we are not on the same page about people dying while still active in their careers (you apparently saying it is okay, and me saying it is not). I want you to leave me the **** alone and stop being the only user to reply to me about this. I mean it this time. Haven't you figured out why I requested to TJ that you not speak to me again until you make a nice/non-inflammatory/non-mean post? I think you're in violation of that order, and I was expecting CatsRule's thoughts on this, or even TJ's.
