Ken Jennings, with his "smarmy core," will never properly fill Alex Trebek's Jeopardy! shoes
"Trebek’s long reign as king of the quiz show in which a correct answer must be delivered in the form of a question is marked by a dearth of scandal or offense," says Andrea Peyser. "The Canadian transplant was sassy without being raunchy. Seemingly erudite without being a snob." That's in contrast to interim host Ken Jennings, she says. "Jennings’ weird sense of humor, if you can call it that, reveals more about the guy’s smarmy core than it does about the vast trove of trivia to which he’s devoted his days," she says, adding that his "reign as the show’s winningest contestant is clouded by a level of flippant cruelty previously unseen on a smart program that, for decades, has delivered a necessary and calming distraction during times of war, recession, social unrest and pandemic." |

I could see Lester Holt being a good host - too bad he’s already got a gig. Meredith Vieira and Tom Bergeron would be solid choices, but the producers are almost certainly going to go younger. Mo Rocco would be fun, though he may not be traditional enough.
I still don’t think it will be Ken Jennings. He’s just not an experienced broadcaster. But we’ll see. The guest host slots are definitely going to be used for tryouts. |

I know Chris Harrison is popular with many, but he is just too dull for me to see him as a long term host of Jeopardy! I think they could do better.

I can pretty much guarantee that the host of The Bachelor will not host Jeopardy. The press would eviscerate him, and Sony knows this.

Tom Bergeron turned down the suggestion but suggested Levar Burton or Danica McKellar.
https://twitter.com/Tom_Bergeron/sta...67731885547521 Danica had a distinguished academic background after she starred in the Wonder Years, and her TV show about math was entertaining, but I don't know if she has much experience interacting with civilians on television. She would make an intriguing choice, though. |

Katie Couric to guest-host Jeopardy! for one week
The longtime network news star will be one of several people who will take over the Jeopardy! hosting job on an interim basis in wake of Alex Trebek's death. Couric will be one of the first interim guest hosts after Ken Jennings, but it's not yet known when her week of shows will air. Who will become Jeopardy!'s new host?: Steve Kornacki? Mayim Bialik? Executive producer Mike Richards!? The Los Angeles Times' Stephen Battaglio, who reported earlier today that Katie Couric will guest host for a week, says new Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune executive producer Mike Richards is among the names being bandied about to replace Alex Trebek, along with Kornacki, "who has developed a rabid cult following for his savant-like analysis of vote counts on election nights," and Bialik. As Battaglio points out, Richards has experience as a game show host. According to Richards' biography, he hosted GSN's Divided and the revival of The Pyramid, as well as Beauty and the Geek. He was also a candidate to host The Price is Right, instead becoming the show's executive producer until 2019. |

So far none of the names sound appealing. They should do a nationwide talent search and find a total unknown.

Vanna White is so underused on Wheel of Fortune. She is supposedly an equal co-host yet barely gets to speak. I think Vanna is smart enough to host Jeopardy, as well as anyone can after Alex. And she showed she was good with contestants when Pat Sajak was off for his surgery. Maggie Sajak could return to Wheel of Fortune, this time as her dad's permanent letter turner.

I would most likely prefer to get somebody who was born in the late 1970s for the new host of Jeopardy!, even if it's a complete unknown. Most of the people who have been suggested in this thread so far are too old. Jeff Probst, Ryan Seacrest, and Chris Harrison would not be desirable choices for me. And on the subject of Ken Jennings, who is already slated for a guest-hosting stint this month: I'm not sure is any former Jeopardy! contestants should become permanent hosts, either.
At one point, I was even entertained with the thought of a female Alex hosting Jeopardy! (Alex is a unisex name, BTW). |

I don't see why knowing someone who works on the show should disqualify you as a contestant. As long as no one is given the answers ahead of time, it will still remain a fair game.

It's been that way since the quiz show scandal. it's been a standard of the network's Standards and Practices Department.
