I have wondered what Richard Stelle and Michael Hodges died from in prison. I know that Michael Stevenson was shot to death in 1986 and that Richard Dollar is basically NOT getting out of jail.
I am always horrified by Gus Hoffman's story and what happened to him and his family. There are no Findagrave links for Stelle or Hodges from what I have seen. |

I found this a while back on Michael Hodges. Doesn’t say what he died from, but it was with his family nearby so I’m guessing some kind of illness/natural causes. If you didn’t know any differently you’d think he was a normal guy based on this write up:
https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries...y?pid=89982957 And he does have a Find a Grave link, but it doesn’t provide any information: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/...l-allen-hodges Couldn’t find anything anywhere on John Stelle |

I can’t be 100% certain, but he has the same middle name, is the same age, and died in Vacaville, which is where the California state prison at solano is. In addition, one of the comments on his memorial is a friend who said he was trying to look him up in the “California system”. So if it isn’t him all those things are pretty major coincidences. But I agree, assuming it is the same guy, that write up is interesting to say the least

Are you just basing that on an obituary that (presumably) his family wrote for him? Like I said in a previous post, there are a number of things that line up that lead me to believe it’s the same guy. At the end of the day, almost nothing is online about these guys outside of UM related stuff so it’s possible you could be right and it isn’t the same Michael Hodges, I don’t have any way of knowing with 100% certainty, but I do think it’s him based on what I was able to find from the few sources that do exist

What exactly was their problem with Gus? Was it one of those "oh, you trying to be one of us?" kind of things that gangs like that are known for? Did one of them think that Gus was wearing a cut and they got offended by it? I got chewed out by some bikers several years ago for wearing a Sons of Anarchy cut that I got from the FX website. While I didn't fear for my safety at any point, I did think of poor Gus. So I took it off and put it in the backseat of my car.

I always felt bad for gus. minding his own business and not out hurting anyone or doing anything wrong.
I went to a gas station one night and there were 3 bikers that were rough and you could tell they were looking for trouble. Ended up seeing on the news they beat up a guy. They didn't mess with me thankfully. I've always thought it was due to me blaring the stereo with some brutal music that probably made me look like a crazy psycho |

I used to think that it was because they saw Gus, who was a skinny, not very tall, 19 year old kid on this amazing, valuable motorcycle and they must have decided in their heads that he wasn't worthy of having it.
But the real answer shows in how senseless this whole crime was. It was a bunch of evil people enjoying being evil. Killing a person is sick enough. But when you have to torture a person over the period of multiple days, (maybe a week has been speculated), before you finally kill said person, you are just getting off on the suffering of others. It's not something that HAS to be done. You kill because you like to kill. |
