PS: it would have been so good to see MRS G make a guest appearance and meet JULIETTE LEWIS interacting with BAD GIRL! (i bet she'd be winking an eye at BLAIR, thinking "History repeat itself!" lol!)

A guest appearance from Mrs. G would have been so perfect.

INT. HEADMASTER'S OFFICE

BLAIR paces back and forth in her office. There's a KNOCK at the door.

BLAIR: [Facing away from the door] Come in...!

UNIDENTIFIED PERSON: Oh, I hope I'm not interrupting anything, but I heard that Blair Warner was here, and I just had to speak to her...

BLAIR: Is that...? [Turns around]

MRS. GARRETT walks into the office, as STUDIO AUDIENCE applauds for three minutes

BLAIR: Mrs. Garrett!

MRS. GARRETT: Blair!

The two embrace.

BLAIR: It's so good to see you! I can't believe you're here! How was Africa? Is Bruce here?

MRS. GARRETT: Bruce is fine; he's at the hotel. You'll see him at dinner tonight. We'll be here in Peekskill for a few weeks. Now, what's this I hear about you buying Eastland?

BLAIR: You already heard, huh?

MRS. GARRETT: [Nods] Beverly Ann told me.

BLAIR: Oh, Mrs. Garrett, I did a terrible thing. And a wonderful thing. But now I don't know what to do. I'm the new headmistress, but I don't know how to run a school. I...

MRS. GARRETT: Blair, you'll do fine.

BLAIR: No I won't. I have no experience. Daddy says my biggest talent is for shopping.

MRS. GARRETT: Oh, Blair. Of all my girls, I always knew you were the one who could handle herself in almost any situation. [guides Blair over to the mirror] Blair, when you look in that mirror, what do you see?

BLAIR: I see someone who's gotten herself into a huge mess.

MRS. GARRETT: I see a wonderful, responsible woman. Someone not afraid to take on new things. Someone who is talented... funny... smart... with a heart of gold.

BLAIR: Gold always was my color. [Smiles, winks at mirror]

MRS. GARRETT: That's the Blair I know!

BLAIR: How did you do it?

MRS. GARRETT: Do what?

BLAIR: You know... take on the responsibility of caring for so many students. You were our housemother.

MRS. GARRETT: I admit, it was a challenge. You girls were weren't always easy, that's for sure... But I can't even describe how rewarding it was... is... to see my girls all grown up.

[They share a look as we CUT to the next scene]

That was a great story Retro: i absolutely loved it! (It was almost as if you've written it for me lol!)

Have you considered posting your own stories on the FANFICTION site? You've very good at it!

I could almost see the whole scene in my head, but my favourite part, was the words of encouragement from MRS G towards BLAIR:

Oh, Blair. Of all my girls, I always knew you were the one who could handle herself in almost any situation.

I wonder what the whole point of that "Big Apple Blues" episode, which was the penultimate episode of the series (before the two part series finale), then if Mindy was pretty much done with playing Natalie Green? It was quite obvious, that was meant to be a spin-off concerning Natalie living with a group of eccentric people (including a pre-SNL David Spade and pre-21 Jump Street Richard Grieco) in an apartment in the Soho district of New York.

Maybe they could have coerced her to do a few episodes before "pulling a Denise Huxtable"?

Time flies...

The Eastland pilot with Blair as the new headmistress is the only spin off attempt of the show that I would have watched. I think it would have been great, the cast was really talented and we would have watched how Mrs. Garrett's mentorship changed Blair, ready to teach the facts of life to another bunch of kids. Too bad NBC never picked up the pilot, it seems that they no longer cared about the show at that point

By the way, Retro, your dialogue is wonderful, another one of your brilliant ideas

By the time of this backdoor pilot, NBC was producing Good Morning Miss Bliss for the Disney Channel, and after 13 episodes, it would move to NBC just in time for the Fall 1989 season. I guess they felt producing one school-based show was enough.

Why thank you, ITA! I really would have LOVED to have seen Mrs. Garrett return.

I'm in with FOL FAN ITA!

BLAIR as the new headmistress would have been the one spin off really worth watching, and to make things even better: a guest appearance from our beloved MRS G! (just like on Retro's dialogue)

The 'Big Apple Blues' episode kind of reminded me of FRIENDS in a way: same kind of apartment, eccentric/crazy friends and New York city!

It definitely was a big apartment. But Monica's apartment was beautiful, with lovely touches all over.

Do you have a copy of it? I looked on Instagram and didn't see anything. In the past she had a very small apartment.
