Default CBS' SEAL Team and Clarice are poised to move to Paramount+

https://deadline.com/2021/05/seal-te...az-1234754114/

The two bubble dramas are expected to land on the ViacomCBS streaming service as part of deals that are still being finalized. Deadline reports that, under the plan, SEAL Team would return on CBS for Season 5 this fall. After airing a few episodes on CBS (likely four), SEAL Team would then migrate to Paramount+. Clarice, meanwhile, is set to become a Paramount+-only series after launching in February. "Already seen with the moves of A.P. Bio from NBC to Peacock, Search Party from TBS to HBO Max and Younger from TV land to Paramount+, broadcast/basic cable series, owned or co-owned by the net’s parent company, are being able to extend their runs by moving to a sibling streamer," reports Deadline's Peter White. "SEAL Team and Clarice may not be the only examples this year, with NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist eying a move to Peacock, ABC’s (canceled) For Life to Hulu. For CBS, it came down to shelf space, as the network already has picked up three new franchise dramas for next season, offshoots from CSI, NCIS and FBI, in addition to medical drama Good Sam."

"SEAL Team" & "Evil" Officially Move to Paramount+
by Nellie Andreeva
May 18, 2021

Two CBS drama series, "Evil" and "SEAL Team", are relocating to Paramount+, ViacomCBS’ streaming service, for their new seasons.

"SEAL Team" ranks among the most-watched CBS dramas on Paramount+ this season, and "Evil" ranked similarly as one of the most-watched during its debut season last year.

"SEAL Team", which is wrapping its fourth season, will kick off its fifth season on CBS next fall and air its first several episodes — likely four — on the broadcast network before migrating to Paramount+.

The second season of "Evil" will debut exclusively on the service. In addition, prior seasons of both series are available to stream now on Paramount+.

CBS boss talks moving SEAL Team and Evil to Paramount+ and reviving CSI six years after its finale

“There are some win-win scenarios, and this feels like that to me,” CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl said of SEAL Team and Evil's move to Paramount+. “These shows get to continue telling stories, and they find a platform that’s probably a little better suited for the more serialized storytelling they do.” As for reviving CSI, he adds: "It’s a mixture of things. There’s certainly a bit of a nostalgia boom going on right now, and it was also the producers sitting up and realizing there were more stories to tell as the technology that was there when the show was on the air has evolved by leaps and bounds. That’s a lot of the fun they’re going to have with the show is we have some legacy characters and some new characters, and there’s going to be interesting comparisons to the way we used to do things vs. the way we do them now. I think that’s really rich material, and at the end of the day I think people are going to be really interested to revisit some of these characters they love and meet some new ones." ALSO: Kahl discusses canceling All Rise and The Unicorn.

David Boreanaz on SEAL Team's move to Paramount+: I can finally say the F-bomb after 20 years on network TV

"I think the biggest thing for us in moving to a platform like Paramount+ is that it puts us in the game," he says. "Look at Amazon, look at Netflix and their success of their shows and what you cannot do on network television. There are a lot standards and practices that we have to adhere to, which we didn't really want to adhere to. It sometimes was a frustrating place to be, because we really want to be honest and truthful with these episodes. This allows us to go darker. I'm not saying we're going to change the wheel, because we've established great characters. It's just a matter of shifting it up and doing some things that are going to be a lot of fun. We're working on that transition now. We're going to be working until the third week of July because we have to get those four episodes done for the network first [that'll air in the fall]. I think that's a good launching pad for us. It allows us to kind of sell that transition." So, can Boreanaz yell, "F***, I've been shot!" "Oh my God," he says. "I've been in network TV for over 20 years and now I can drop the F-bomb? But it's not about dropping the F-bomb. You have to earn those moments. I think they will be more readily earned on a streaming platform. We can really go there now, and that's going to be interesting, really. I'm excited about it."
