Question Did Anybody See George O'Hanlon's Final Performance as George Jetson in the Movie?

How was it?

In 1961, George O'Hanlon would once again achieve pop culture celebrity status when he was hired by Hanna-Barbera to become the voice of George Jetson in a new futuristic animated TV series called The Jetsons.

More television roles followed in episodes of Mister Ed, Marcus Welby, Adam-12, The Partridge Family, Mission Impossible and many others. O'Hanlon's last role came when he starred once again as the voice of George Jetson in the big screen adaptation of The Jetsons. O'Hanlon had suffered a stroke leaving him almost blind and with little short term memory. He had to be coached while delivering what would be his final lines before his death in February 1989, prior to the film's release in 1990.

Yes, I've seen Jetsons the Movie several times (I have it on VHS). I
also have his guest appearance on the special U.S. Savings Bond episode of
Mister Ed. O'Hanlon was a great character actor, and I miss him. He
was perfectly cast as George Jetson.

Just out of curiosity, how did he sound?

Default I saw the movie (such as it was)...

...and it was really a sad affair. George barely finished recording his voice tracks before his death- and you could tell the old energy he once had, slipped away. Same with Daws Butler and Mel Blanc; in fact, Daws passed away in 1988, before he could finish his portion of the soundtrack; his protege, Greg Burson, completed it. And then there was distributor Universal's insistance that since Tiffany [Darwish] (under contract to their MCA Records label, who released the movie's soundtrack) was supposed to be Judy Jetson's singing voice, she should speak for her as well....thereby eliminating Janet Waldo's original voice tracks. And Tiffany wasn't that great an actress, either....

Same thing with Yogi's magical flight or something, the voices sounded tired and without energy accept for Dastardly and Mumbly.

I'm kind of surprised that the producers were willing to stick w/ George O'Hanlon as long as he did given his failing health. I suppose that the general feeling was that he still "sounded like George Jetson" and it would've been bad publicity to replace the original actor (like they did w/ Tiffany playing Judy Jetson instead of Janet Waldo). I wonder how it was all edited together sine I would assume that it was a very plodding ordeal. He from my understanding, literally died in the recording studio while working on the Jetsons movie.

When I think of George, I remember his appearance on I Love Lucy as Stevie Appleby's father.

When I saw that Lucy episode I couldn't place the voice. NOW I finally do, thanks to that post!

O'Hanlon also wrote, at least one but probably more than one episode of The Flintstones.
