Tony Randall actually said "Only Felix Unger would divorce that" at Janis Hansen's audition. Janis Hansen, who was married, was called to the audition while doing something else or on her way to someplace else with her husband. She had nothing dressy to wear so put on a sweater or something over some plain clothes and either they asked her to take off the sweater or the sweater was too small and her most valuable assets were straining to get out. That's when Tony Randall said his now famous line and she was hired. |

They were married while the show was in production, but later divorced. |

The same can be said for Amanda Bellows being the wife of Dr. Bellows on I Dream of Jeannie. Too hot for Dr. Bellows?

I saw an episode with her in it this morning and she looked about 25 years younger than him. She would've been more believable as his daughter than his wife.

Jack and Brett separated but never divorced. They lived together as a married couple for 20 years but were married and separated for over 30 years and remained good friends until Brett Somers' death.

Janis is still with us. She is 80. Editing to add that she was a Playboy bunny.

Why Mr. Klugman and Miss Somers went to this trouble is puzzling. Mr. Klugman himself had been Miss Somers's 2nd husband - as prior to marrying Mr.Klugman, she had divorced her first husband Robert Klein - the father of her daughter Leslie (who Brett sadly would outlive as the younger woman died of lung cancer in 2003). I had a set of great-great grandparents who faked a lengthy separation while he went to live with mistresses before being sent to a rest home while she 'visited' their daughters on a rotating basis for years at a time but, in reality, she actually DID legally divorce him for his adultery and alcoholism yet even their grandkids didn't know different until my father found the actual decree many decades after their deaths. Of course, that happened in a small rural county in the turn of the 20th century while few if anyone in LA would have dissed the Klugmans for getting divorced in the 1970's. |
