Default My Three Sons - Nick Knacks Episode #052

This is a long one (MILD LANGUAGE WARNING).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QScsWibBGs

Quote:
We continue our look into Nickelodeon Summer Camp, Nick's summer programming block to entice parents to get more interested in Nick at Nite.

The second show for the block is My Three Sons, where Fred MacMurray played a widowed father raising his three sons, plus a fourth son, plus an adopted daughter, plus three grandkids... look, he just ends up raising a lot of kids.

More Donna Reed-style snark, I imagine. I'll pass.

Lol Happy To Be In The Black, that's what the screen looked like to me

Extremely pleased to report the whole PC crap diatribe was totally blocked out where the poster wanted us to read or listen to or whatever it was he was posting, I couldn't even see it. I guess it's a good thing I couldn't I can't stand PC and am always very happy to be as UN-PC as possible.

I watched the video and it's actually mostly positive. He even says that My Three Sons is a "great" show. He still takes a couple more jabs at Donna Reed but this video is much more positive.

When I was a kid, I loved watching all the black and white shows on Nick at Nite: My Three Sons, The Donna Reed Show, Mister Ed, Car 54, Where Are You?, Make Room for Daddy, etc. My childhood was better for having those shows in it.

If this was in the 80s, I wish you had rolled a VCR tape! (I sure wish I had!)

THe first half hour is very interesting, and his only problem is pronouncing Dodie Doddie, and, yes, he takes a lot more shots at Donna Reed. He goes PC around the half hour mark.

After the PC stuff starts they have a snippet with Beverly Garland complaining about how she was always to be nice, as is evidenced by probably having to re-do a golf scene before they were married. Evidently she won out, eventually, in the episode "Bad Day for Barbara." My statement, not his. He rates an episode about Robbie saving a Chinese girl as the worst episode. He evidently didn't see the gypsy episode.

Interesting thread from a year ago.

I don't think I could rate the episode "Robbie and the Slave Girl" (S6, Jan. 1966) objectively because I like Irene Tsu and Benson Fong. Even if that were not the case, despite a shaky premise, I think it would be VERY far from the "worst" of the series.

If pressed, I'd have to say that Uncle Charley's horseracing episode is among my least favorites of the color seasons, yet it does have some memorable moments.

My cringe worthy moments occur when Ernie is old and he starts talking and acting like he's the coolest cat around. Esp. when he talks to Dodie. Kind of makes me sick. I think Ernie got a little swell headed in the last couple years.

The phrase "hipster doofus" comes to mind -- but it will come as no surprise to you that I'm usually too busy studying Beverly Garland & Tina Cole in the late episodes to be too concerned with Ernie...!

The Livingston brothers I think represent pretty rare opportunities to see young children evolve season-by-season over more years than most series -- with some obvious exceptions, like Ricky Nelson's development over an even longer period.

I'm really hung up on Beverly Garland, I'll confess. Glad we still have her on TV episodes!

Yes, Ernie got a little ridiculous looking, with the longer hair split down the middle, and the mod vest, etc. Sign of the times around 1970, I guess.

Wink Beverly In The Swamps

I hope you don't get too carried away with Beverly!

Don't you wish you were an alligator?

I wonder if Beverly ever called Steve into her room like this?

Beverly wanted us to have a look at her sewing skills. I vote for the short skirt outfit in panel 2:

Ernie was always the "nice kid." Then in a later season 11 episode he is grounded for letting Dodie go to a friend's house, and she has to cross too many streets.

Earlier he acted like a total jerk when Barbara was talking to him, and he was too busy tuning the guitar. She should have grabbed his ear and said, LISTEN!

Anyway, when he was grounded, he crawled out the window and did his thing, whatever it was.

Totally out of character. They never had Chip do that kind of stuff. Sub-par episode, S11 Ep 22, "Fit the Crime."
