I'm sorry but I don't think anyone can take your comments seriously about a show you watched when you were 4 years old lol |

I didn't understand how a show could have so many viewers because it followed a hit show but when the show is moved then they have no viewers |

People left the tube on after the hit show and watched the one behind it. The shows went hand in hand. It was moved to another night and changed the format of the show. |

It was charming. I thought the cast was great. Donna Prescow was better here than she was on Saturday Night Fever. Debra Lee Scott was better here than on Welcome Back Kotter. Even Doris Roberts was good way before Everybody Loves Raymond. I got to see Robert Hays way before he did Airplane. I enjoyed the sister in law and the rest of the supporting cast. Future tv stars I didn't know included Rhea Pearlman and C.W. Bailey. I saw the whole show on DVD and it should have lasted a few more years.

This show was HUGE and was in the top 5 shows and I think even was #1 a few weeks for ABC. Our family would watch and it really was a great show how a common working class woman falls for a rich and blue blood guy. However what made the show work, the writers destroyed. The first season was HUGE. The banter between the families was great. However once they got married and moved in together, the magic was gone. How do you keep it going? So oddly enough, its rare for such a popular show to be cancelled after season 2.
I guess they say, it was fun while it lasted. |

It has never been discovered how far the ratings fell in season 2 because the 1979-80 full show rankings have never been found. Only that it was below 30. Maybe 31? lol |

I will also add it has one of the best theme songs of the 1980s IMHO
I love the song. It even peaked around #20 on the billboard charts |

The show had a strong cast, a good premise and a great time slot in both the first and second seasons. Obviously the production company made an incredible blunder by marrying the main character so soon in the show's history, and worse still they made the same blunder made on Rhoda just a few years earlier. There's an old saying in golf, going to school on someone else's putt, that sure didn't happen here.
All that said, ABC which had the huge surge in popularity in the mid70's was just starting downhill in the 79-80 season. Happy Days the show on right before Angie took a steep drop from 3 to 17 in the ratings. Several other hit series dropped as well, Mork and Mindy dropped from 3 to 28, Laverne and Shirley dropped from 1 out of the top 30, , Starksy and Hutch was in its final season, Kotter was cancelled after the 78-79 season even Three's Company started losing audience. Fred Silverman had already left the network so things were going wrong in a hurry. It was a perfect storm in 79-80 for the ABC network not a good time for a show entering its first full season. |

The show had a really good opening theme and the show itself was kind of funny & lighthearted, but not super-memorable.
Had a great cast from what I remember. |
