Mom to end with season 8. I'm not surprise.

I'm also not shocked, because I don't think this has been their strongest season, but I'm also sad.

I really wish Anna would have stayed, but I guess she had to be true to herself. I also saw some ugly rumors (I don't know if they're accurate or not) that she left the show because of a substance abuse issue. I hope those rumors aren't true, and I'm not judging, but it would explain her sudden departure, after renewing her contract.

Well it's odd that at the end of season 6 she signs a two year contract with a raise only to break it after the first year of the contract. Her and Allison both were holding out signing anything until they received a raise on their checks. I hope it's not a substance abuse issue. I would be surprise with that. She claims she left the show to pursue other opportunities. She does have one project in production. It's possible she really did leave to pursue a movie career but Allison has done both movies and this show at the same time. I don't see why Anna couldn't do both like her? Anna did appear in some movies while filming Mom.

I thought her exit might have been because Kristen was added to the cast. Anna leaves after they make Kristen a full time regular. I thought maybe Anna felt there were too many actors getting screen time and wanted to bail because it was supposed to be her show. There was a dramatic change in who was the star the last two seasons with Anna. Allison took over Anna's show prompting the writers and producers being more focus on adding things for her to have the spotlight with instead of Anna. We had Bonnie's half brother, Bonnie's husband, Bonnie's foster sister, Bonnie's therapist, and so many other Bonnie aspects. What did Christy have? Anna was given less and less each year. I'm sure she noticed that.

Thanks for the link to the IMDB project. Guess we'll see if it happens. But as you say, stars can film movies in the same year the do TV... especially when the season appears to be only 13 episodes anyway.

Yep. Both Anna leaving after renewing her contract, and this cancellation, have reasons behind them. Someday, we'll know more.

She was able to still pursue new opportunities while doing Mom. She was able to voice Jeanette in the final Alvin movie in 2015, star as a lead in the Overboard remake, and voice one of the lead characters in The Emoji Movie. I don't think pursuing new opportunities was her main reason to leave Mom in what was already likely to be the final season for the show before it began filming. Something definitely happened. Because this show isn't a big hit, we'll probably never know.

If the show is not a big hit then it would not lasted for 8 seasons

Just because a show lasts 8 seasons or more doesn't mean it's a big hit. There's lots of shows that have good runs but rarely have any publicity on them. Mom isn't a Friends, Seinfeld, or Big Bang type show. It's not a big show where all these big name celebrities even want to guest star on. It's a quiet little show that receives enough ratings to keep going each season. I like Mom the way it is. Shows that rely on celebrity guest stars to keep fans interested end up losing steam. Mom did it best just being about the story than gimmicks to draw viewers in.
