Fat jokes lose their punch after the first season. I missed the younger and smart a** Dee. She was best on Burger Queen.

I agree the mama wasn’t too good but IMO What’s Happening was WAY better than What’s Happening Now because of one character:

Nadine

BTW: What’s wrong with Dee?

I’m not gonna lie Dee ruled from Seasons 1-2 of WH. She was a little boring in Season 3 of WH and in WHN.

Big and little Earl were annoying and Raj should have never moved out. The only episode I really like on the 3rd season is "The Thomas Treasure" where they rip apart the house looking for money. Its so ridiculous that its like a train wreck, you cant help but to watch.
Roger & his friends were the main characters and I doubt her departure had anything to do with the ratings going down.

The ratings went down because the show got so stupid. The show got stupid because the character who could put Raj and Dee in their place was gone. That void brought stupid characters Big and Little Earl, etc. The whole set up of the show changed season 3 which destroyed ratings.

I never thought the mother was needed especially since she had small screen time from the start

Yes even the actors agreed in post show interviews that Mabel should have been given more air time. She grounded the show from too much stupidity. She was an honest working single mom. The few episodes that focused on her were quite good like when she goes to night school and gets a date and the Xmas episode. When you remove such a pillar from a show that has nothing but fat jokes then all you get is fat jokes and its stale after awhile.

I guess I just enjoyed seeing the guys more than anyone else. And when you saw her she wasnt doing anything but yelling at dee or roger. So I was always waiting for her to disappear

Default I Knew...

When season three started it just wasn't the same dynamic as the first two seasons as it focused more on the cast without Ms Thomas around even though I still liked the show a lot...

Once Little Earl aka new cute kid showed up this show was over. Anytime a little kid pops up a long running show the cancellaton clock is ticking...
