Wow! I think it was a sign of the times!
Back than things weren't questioned as much! Before internet/ TV message boards etc. things just were what they were ! I mean I totally remember this! I remember when Florida ( Esther Rolle) left Maude and got her own show! It was like Wow OK it IS Florida. but she's now in Chicago and poorer than before but Oh well , it's a new show and that is that! That was the attitude back than, we didn't question things as much! ![]() Like why Dino on the Flintstones was sometimes purple and sometimes like a dark pinkish red color! I mean we had to have noticed that back in the day that he wasn't always the same color all the time right? But it is only now that people are questioning it , there have been posts about this here on S.O. ![]() See what I mean?

I found it! I finally found it! The big Good Times sendoff.
Maude and Walter throw a surprise farewell party for Henry and Florida after they announce that they’re relocating to Chicago in order for Henry to be closer to his new job nearby. Heads turn though as J.J. makes a grand entrance with his biracial girlfriend, Janet and her parents, Terry and Helena Williams, much to Henry’s dismay. To make matters worse, Henry later finds out that he’s been laid off from his new job. Unwilling to adjust to project life, Henry transforms into his alter ego, James Evans. Guest Stars: Isabel Sanford as Mother Evans, Bernadette Stanis as Thelma Evans, Ralph Carter as Michael Evans, and more |

Mother Evans oversees Walter and James drinking at the bar and walks up to James, concerned, angry, and confrontational. Mother Evans: James, that’s your third glass today. Put that glass down! James: Will you quit naggin’ me woman?!! Mother Evans: Now, James, I have spoken. You put that glass down! James: Mama, will you lay off me, damnit??! Mother Evans: James, I’m not gonna- James: Look, mama, I don’t need you to blow my nose. Now will you please leave me alone?!! Walter: Now, James, that ain’t a very nice way to talk to ya mammy there, ain’t it? Mother Evans: Who you callin’ Mammy?!!! I’m old enough to be George Jefferson’s wife. |

If that wasn’t enough they also played the dozens. LOL. Get ready for it.
J.J. enters the room with his girlfriend, Janet. J.J.: Me and my chick outta site! He there, man, (referring to Arthur) step aside for KID DYNOMITE! Thelma walks up to J.J. Thelma: My brother J.J. just smooth talked another chick. I don’t know how, he’s just a stick. J.J.: Thelma, Thelma, Thelma. Ya face is toe up and ya cookin is bad so get outta my face fore’ ya wish ya had. Janet’s father, Terry, then walks further into the room. Terry: Hey, this looks fun. I love this driving. Helena: Jiving, Terry, jiving. Terry walks up to Michael, laughing. Terry: Hey there, boy. Wanna play? Basketball, football, anything that ends with l. You don’t belong here, go to school and learn to spell. Michael: First of all, honkey, boy is a white racist word. So back off and leave me alone fore’ I squash you like a bird. LOL. |

I am sticking with TVFactFan and Bonniegirl. There is no way that Good Times is a true spin off of anything. If it was a spinoff, it would be the LAMEST, POINTLESS, DUMBEST spin off ever! Henry (James) leaves his well paying fireman job to become a poor dishwasher and car washer in Chicago??? That doesn't even make sense not to mention that he changes his name.
![]() ![]() Good Times really pissed me off with the whole thing about pretending that Carl never existed. They should have written him off instead of insulting the audience by hoping we'd forget him all together. Lazy and stupid. |
