Default Why So Many People Hate The Big Bang Theory

https://screenrant.com/big-bang-theo...edium=referral

Quote:
The recent announcement that The Big Bang Theory would be coming to an end after its upcoming twelfth season was met with a joy not seen since Sir Patrick Stewart announced he would be returning to the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a new Star Trek television series. Despite being one of America's most highly rated situation comedies and one of the most heavily syndicated sitcoms in the world, the number of people who actively despise the show (the anti-fandom, if you will) seem to be far more vocal than the 15-20 million viewers that the latest episodes of the show reportedly attract each week.

The anti-fandom of The Big Bang Theory is made up of a diverse number of individuals. Some are self-proclaimed geeks who feel the show is built on negative stereotypes of nerd culture. Comedy aficionados suggest that the show's writing substitutes actual jokes with pop culture references and scientific jargon. Some believe the show's humor is overly stereotypical in general and built around outdated sitcom tropes. Still others, including some former fans of the The Big Bang Theory, feel the show has overplayed its hand and has grown stale and repetitive over the past few seasons.

The Big Bang Theory is/was awful. It should've been cancelled after one season.

I enjoyed The Big Bang Theory, but I believe it's time for the show to end. I found the characters funny and relatable for many years, but once they all started settling down with families, the show started to lose what had made it special.

I guess it's like Nickelback. Like them or hate them, they, in fact, were one of the most successful bands of the 2000's. But they have a very vocal hatedom.

I like the show. It has grown on me overtime. But I think it ending after Season 12 is the right time. All the main characters are now married. The whole point of the show was about 4 geeks who were trying to make it in life, and now, they have. I don't blame Jim Parsons with wanting to end it after Season 12. Where would they have went from here if they continued past that?

I like the show also but it has grown tired. I would have ended it after last season with the marriage of Sheldon and Amy.

Exactly. There's nowhere for the show to go, now that they have everything they ever wanted in life. It would all be downhill.

Why The Big Bang Theory's staunchest haters are wrong
"I don’t mean to dismiss the complaints of BBT haters out of hand. The show does still think it’s hilarious that certified geniuses struggle with social interactions and fashion," says Noel Murray. "But," he adds, "it’d be nice if everyone who slams The Big Bang Theory for what they insist is a sneering attitude toward geekdom would recognize how knowledgeable (Chuck) Lorre, (Bill) Prady, and their writers actually are about all the things their haters love. Some shows that reference comic books or science fiction movies make up intentionally silly titles, like Wonder Lad or Galaxy Warriors. On BBT, even the jokes are nearly always about real properties: The Flash, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and so forth. The same goes whenever Sheldon and Leonard talk about technology or physics...By spring 2019, a major network will have spent 12 years airing a massively popular show about brilliant scientists who look forward to Comic-Con, think action figures are cool, and have healthy, fulfilling relationships with each other and with the opposite sex. At a time when superhero movies top the box office and technology wonks like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are household names, The Big Bang Theory has helped promote the idea that nerds are the new normal."

From what I've gathered, people think that The Big Bang Theory basically presents caricatures or nerds and geeks. It's what crusty old network executives basically think that nerds and geeks are like by exaggerating aspects of their culture.

I don't think it's all that much of an exaggeration: when I get together with my geeky friends, we definitely get into silly pop culture discussions: which Game of Thrones character should have sat on the Iron Throne at the end of the series; which Friends character was the "seventh friend"; who would win in a fight between deaf Faith and blind Buffy; etc.

Early on, I think the writers struggled to understand the geeky male characters, but they eventually came to understand them very well. The introductions of Amy and Bernadette in Season 3 cemented the series for the next nine years.

That depends. How big is the amount of fanfiction involving the show? I haven't checked lately.

Not that I don't see your point. Although I've seen too many online ads pretending to be articles about a phantom 13th season, which are as legitimate as current ads for Tower Records and Circuit City.

I don't watch current TV in general but someone told me about it sometime in its first few years. Being astronomy and astrophysics are some of my hobbies I decided to give it a try.

One of the main reasons that I don't watch TV now is I consider most of it male bashing; i.e., every male character is a moron. So I was intrigued that these were supposedly smart men. What it looked like to me was: see, these really smart men are morons too. No thanks. Hollywood at its lowest, which I now consider permanent.

The show’s last season was too heavy on the male bashing and trying to push the supremacy of women. In short, it became like any other sitcom of the last 30 years. Looking back it looks like Amy and Bernadette took over the show near its end, and they suck. They both started ok to begin with, but Bernadette downright became unlikable. She hated her husband and she stabbed people in the back to get ahead in her job.

You are right about Bernadette at the end, but I didn't feel that way about Amy.

No, Amy was not unlikable like Bernadette, but the show’s plots still focused too heavily on her.
