Why was Thelma allowed to cook if she burned the oatmeal all the time?

Every episode it's mentioned how Thelma either burns or ruins oatmeal, why do they let her cook if she can't? Then again, I don't think that we ever saw JJ or Michael try to cook, so I suppose what choice did they have? With that being said however, why didn't Florida teach her how to cook?

I think even if chef Ramsey cook the oatmeal, JJ and Micheal still be complaining since they probably are sick of oatmeal

I remember Thelma was cooking oatmeal and it was burning. Florida told her how can she smell the oatmeal burning since she had so much cologne and toiletry on her.
