Default Judge Judy to end in 2021 after 25 seasons, but new show Judy Justice is in the works

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/li...-works-1282015

Judy Sheindlin reveals on Monday's pre-taped Ellen show that the upcoming 25th season of her lucrative syndicated court show will be its last. But Sheindlin says she's working on a new court show that she couldn't offer details about, titled Judy Justice. "CBS (Television Distribution, which distributes the show) sort of felt, I think, they wanted to optimally utilize the repeats of my program," she says, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Now they have 25 years of my reruns. What they decided to do is sell a couple of years' worth of reruns. But I'm not tired, so Judy Justice will be coming out a year later." Sheindlin adds that she couldn't go into detail, but says: "Judge Judy, you'll be able to see next year — a full year, all new shows. The following couple of years, you should be able to get all the reruns that CBS has sold on the stations currently carrying Judge Judy, and Judy Justice will be going elsewhere. Isn't that fun?" Sheindlin is TV's highest-paid personality, earning $47 million per year from Judge Judy, which launched in September 1996.

Since her debut in 1996 Judge Judy has been everyone's favorite TV judge and with her sassy attitude and smart knowledge about cases about anything. Now that Judge Judy is ending in 2021 Judge Judy shows no sign of slowing down and with her new show Judy Justice "Kind of sounds like a name for a female Marvel character" coming soon Judge Judy will still prove that she still has loads of law advice to share with everyone

Report: Judy Sheindlin's feud with CBS led her to end Judge Judy after 25 years

TMZ reports that "Judy and CBS have been feuding for quite some time, and it largely has to do with the former head honcho of the network, Les Moonves, no longer working there. A new regime has taken over ... and we're told they and Judy just haven't been seeing eye-to-eye on a lot of things she and Les were square on. Specifically, we're told Judy was being shut down left and right on possible new shows she developed ... something we're told was she'd be able to do under her latest contract with them, but hasn't been realized after Moonves was ousted in 2018."

Judy Sheindlin's next show Judy Justice aiming for streaming riches

Judge Judy is unusual in TV's current landscape because it's strictly a broadcast show with reruns that have never been available on cable or streaming. Sheindlin's new show, Judy Justice, aims to change that. The new show is "expected to be a gaveler in a similar format as Judge Judy," reports Cynthia Littleton. "But it will not be aimed for broadcast syndication. The bet is that Judy Justice will command attention from a streaming service or major cable outlet that can craft an innovative distribution plan that blends linear and streaming platforms." Littleton adds: "Sheindlin is not believed to be facing any non-compete restrictions after she moves on next year. There’s been some friction between Sheindlin and CBS in recent years over the handling of her rerun library. Sheindlin gained control over her archive at some point during her numerous contract negotiations with CBS. CBS wound up buying the rights to the Judge Judy library for an estimated $100 million after the rights were shopped around in 2017."

I wonder how Judge Judy's farewell season (and all of the other syndicated judge shows) are being handled with COVID-19 protocols (like, for example, how they deal with the audience that comes to see their tapings, or are they being taped without an audience).

They are all doing it differently.

Judge Judy is running episodes taped before COVID that she had in the can but hadn't aired. No idea how many she has left before she has to start filming new episodes

People's Court is using Zoom with the Judge and litigants at home.

Judge Mathis is in his usual courtroom but litigants are separated by a plastic barrier and the audience has plastic masks. there only a few audience members in the Courtroom. It's always the same audience members so I assume they are staff who are tested frequently.

I never cared much for Judge Judy. Judge Marilyn on The People's Court seemed much more professional and judicious. Judge Judy would just get mean.

I don't know when we'll get to such a point myself. But if I had to make a bet on Judge Judy resumes taping of its new episodes, it'll probably be around next January. And will there be any sort of farewell specials commemorating the end of Judge Judy's run, or will it just be business as usual? Even with Judith Sheindlin getting at least a minute for a farewell speech for her show and its audience?

Also, I didn't know Judge Judy had that huge a backlog of unaired cases. Did Judge Judy cram its taping schedule upon the start of the COVID outbreak?

I used to be an ardent watcher of JJ.

About 3-4 years ago, her demeanor changed. It was subtle, but noticeable. She actually dropped a lot of her snarkiness that is directed toward the litigants.

And another thing I observed after watching/recording cases (2008-2016), I started recognizing some of the same people (with different names of course) playing the roles of plaintiffs and defendants. That's when it dawned on me that they are indeed actors playing the roles. Since I have watched for entertainment reasons, it hasn't been a deal breaker.

One point that has changed over time has been JJ application of the law. In some of the early 2000's JJ would tell a renter that he/she had indeed moved out of the apartment even if a small towel had been left behind. About 5 years ago, she had taken the renter's right that a person still occupied the space to the very last day of the rent; even if a pillow had been left behind.

I wish JJ was streaming somewhere even though I have my recordings.

Judy Sheindlin blames CBS' handling of Hot Bench for her Judge Judy exit: “You disrespected my creation"

Sheindlin created the 2014-2019 syndicated court panel show, but she says she felt slighted by CBS dumping Hot Bench to make room for The Drew Barrymore Show in 2019. “You disrespected my creation,” Ms. Sheindlin tells The Wall Street Journal of the handling of Hot Bench by CBS. “And you were wrong. Not only in disrespecting my creation, but your gamble in what you put in its place.” Sheindlin adds with a laugh “We had a nice marriage. It’s going to be a Bill and Melinda Gates divorce.”

Wrong. She's not my favorite TV judge. Judy is nothing more than a theatrical judge that uses her behavior as a gimmick to get people to watch. I can't stand Judge Judy.

I love Judge Milian. Unlike Judy, Marilyn gives advice on her show that we could all use in various situations. She doesn't interrupt people and shows respect. I wish Pluto TV would have added a channel for her instead of Judy. Unfortunately, hot head theatrics gain more viewership over quality.

The theatrics on JJ sure are over the top. If I had a case, I'd never bring it to Judge Judy. Judge Marilyn seems reasonable.

Yep. I feel like Judge Marilyn actually listens to the plaintiffs and defendants. Judge Judy is constantly screaming, "I'm speaking!" Judy, when your mouth is open, your ears are closed.

Judge Judy is a nasty senile old woman that should've retired two decades ago!
