Jokes that younger viewers today, wouldn't get - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I was watching It's a Living on Logo, last night and in back to back episodes, there were jokes made about the "Lisa Bonet Show". First, it was in the (fifth season) episode involving Ginger's grandmother and Sonny's music video at the restaurant. As they're about to watch a video tape of said video, Sonny makes some quip of having to tape over "The Lisa Bonet Show". And then in the following episode, Jan makes some crack (I don't immediately recall exactly what she said) to Dot about the supposedly poor quality of "The Lisa Bonet Show".

Now, given that this is from the Spring of 1988, I'm assuming that the jokes referencing Lisa Bonet are about her then starring role on A Different World, which in itself, was a spin-off of The Cosby Show. As everybody I think knows, after the first season of A Different World, Lisa Bonet departed and Debbie Allen was brought in to retool it, which many believe made the show better.

Going back to my main point, I don't think that people watching today would immediately understand the context of them joking about "The Lisa Bonet Show". First, I seriously wonder if most young people even know who Lisa Bonet (since her pop culture relevancy has pretty much faded over the past 25 years) is other than "She's married to Aquaman (Jason Momoa in case you're wondering) and she's Zoe Kravitz's mom". And even if they did know exactly what they were referring to, the jokes lost all of their impact considering that the producers of A Different World took it upon themselves to fix whatever was wrong with the show in the first season.

I remember an episode where Jan mentions the Wacky WallWalker, which was a popular toy during the mid-1980s. And I remember the episode where Jan sells Ginger her old car and she mentions it has a John Anderson campaign sticker on it (Anderson was a presidential candidate in 1980). And there are constant references to Ronald Reagan and his long naps.
