Prodigal Son airs its intended season finale while skipping two episodes

The Fox crime drama's freshman season was originally scheduled for 22 episodes. Episodes 21 and 22 were shot in advance in February due to Michael Sheen's theater commitment in Britain. But the coronavirus prevented Prodigal Son from filming Episodes 19 and 20. So Episodes 21 and 22 became the final episodes of the season, as intended but with two missing episodes. "What we had to do was during that last week of shooting, as it became obvious over the course of a couple of days that we would have to shut down and then we weren’t even sure if we would be able to come back, what we did was quickly scrapped what we had planned to shoot and we shot two scenes and a couple of inserts that would allow us to bridge the gap between episodes 18 and 21," says co-creator Chris Fedak of the coronavirus shutdown. "We quickly made a move to cover the serialized storytelling in those two episodes, compacting it down into two scenes."
