Mary Treen, the character actress, was a great addition to the show, and got some good zingers in on Joey (and vice versa). Also it was fun to see grown-up Rusty on a few season 4 episodes.

Mary Treen was good in the series as the family housekeeper. The three episodes with Rusty are good, I enjoy those. I really like Joe Besser in this series, he's zany and the show needed someone like him as a counter balance to Joey's more subdued style of humor.

Probably my favorite episode of the whole series is the season 3 episode with Phil Foster and Leo Durocher, that one is really funny. Another good one from season 3 is Joey The Comedian vs. Larry The Writer, especially the first part of the episode where Joey gradually loses his cool and eventually blows his top, firing his writer Larry, then he fires the housekeeper Hilda, and he even fires his wife and child. LOL, it is classic.

Sometimes Buddy Hackett is funny but overall I'm not really a Buddy Hackett fan either. The two Joey Bishop episodes he's in aren't the greatest episodes which doesn't help matters any. From what I understand, when Buddy Hackett performed his routine in clubs, he was very risque/foul mouthed and used a lot of bad language.

Yes, Besser added a lot to this show. As far as Phil Foster goes, he may have been good in this show, but if he was that loudmouth in Laverne and Shirley, ugh!

Phil Foster is indeed a loudmouth in the Joey Bishop episode he's in, but the script is funny so he doesn't come across as annoying. Everyone has their opinion regarding comedy, you may or may not like the episode, for me it's my top favorite episode.

Marlo had said in an interview, that by season 5, Clairol (sponser for the show) allowed her to get rid of the bangs and do a part. Apparently in previous seasons they would not allow it and insisted on her classic "bangs with bubble flip" hairdo.

Following up on this post I made from 2020, not only does the "Super Reporter" episode on the season 5 DVD from Shout Factory have the tag scene missing, but there's another scene from earlier in the episode that's missing also. I can only imagine that Shout Factory ended up with an edited for syndication print of this episode, and the error wasn't noticed before the DVD set went into production. My recording of the episode from Antenna TV does include the other missing scene so that's a good thing.

Also, for those who are interested, all 5 seasons of That Girl are currently on Tubi for free viewing. On Tubi, the "Super Reporter" episode is complete/uncut.

You're welcome Steve, I agree, Super Reporter is a pretty good episode from season 5.

There's about a half dozen other episodes on the DVD's that have shorter than usual run times, but Super Reporter so far is the only one that I can confirm is edited.

Somebody I know came up with a pretty good reason some shows run shorter, usually by up to a minute. Show sponsors sometimes had mail in offers, contests, or other plugs. These are actually shown on the Ozzie and Harriet DVDs. It's probably the reason Some Leave It To Beaver, and more recently some of the Mayberry RFD episodes are in the 24+ minute range.

Thanks for sharing this, that's a 2 1/2 minute commercial and if originally shown during some season 3 episodes of Leave It To Beaver would probably explain why those episodes run a minute shorter than usual on the DVD's.
