You do have a point, when a couple wants to swap it's because the other couple is attractive.

The Season 5 version is superior and funnier than the unaired Season 3 episode. The only things that worked better in the first version were Maude's hysterical reaction to Channing (the husband of the swinging couple) chatting up Carol; and Walter has a line about "calling the Vice Squad" in the original that was changed to "making a citizen's arrest" but I didn't find the latter as funny.

I like the unaired version the best. There are so many funny parts that worked best in the first version than the one that aired. My favorite line was when Maude is building Walter up to the wife and Walter replies, "What are you trying to do Maude? Sell me to her!" I'm so glad Shout released the original version so we could see how it was meant to be.
