I don't think I've ever seen it on a local station. I know it was on The Family Channel, but did it air on any other stations?

I dont know what channel showed it here in Philly. I think it was either WPHL or WGBS (which is now WPSG). I remember when it was on Family Channel...

In Philly, it was on WTXF, I'm pretty sure. As far as other local stations airing it, WSBK, the UPN station from Boston, aired Punky Brewster for the longest time. Since it began syndication in 1989 I think, up until 1999. WNAC FOX 64 Providence also aired it. And also WWOR 9 UPN NYC aired it.

Punky Brewster did air on WNAC around Fall 1988 or so. This show had a very brief syndication history. WSBK probably had it for the longest.

WSBK 38 in Boston aired it when I was 7 for sure, in the fall of 1989...
. I’m not sure how many years it did air there in reruns, but I seem to recall Saved By The Bell at say 4 and 430, then Punky at 5 and 530. I also recall promos for both shows that used the musical jingle hip beats and background music they’d use for example of SBTB when talking about the characters. One being Slater. The girl in the promo went “I like Slater...he’s strong!” And it would show a shot of him with a weight. For Punky, I recall a singer singing “Won’t you take me to...Punky Town! Well it’s gotta be, gotta be, gotta be Punky B.!” Or something along those lines when that network did promos for those shows. I think they remained in reruns at least into 1991. I recall seeing them for sure in 1989 and 1990 when I was in 2nd grade, and most likely when I was in 3rd grade as well in 1990-1991. But then it was most likely dropped because I don’t recall seeing it anywhere in reruns until summer of 1996 when I was 13/14 Still, on WSBK channel 38, or was it UPN by then? I remember Silver Spoons and Punky both airing that summer of 1996 back to back. |

Right now I watch it on the Streaming NBC channel. Back in the day I believe I watched it on NBC in Virginia.

Growing up in the greater NYC area & being born exactly a month after Punky’s debut, I only recall seeing it’s final season on syndication & of course seeing reruns of all seasons as reruns. Yet, for the life of me, I absolutely don’t remember which local channel it was because the last time I ever saw an episode/rerun of it was circa summer 1994 & that was KTLA-5 ironically enough, since we were on vacation visiting relatives in SoCal.
Until recently, after I downloaded the NBC/peacock app Punky Brewster was just a memory however a very vivid one. I have literally been obsessed for many weeks now over which channels in the NY/NJ area aired at the end of the 80s & beginning of the 90s yet I’ve been unable to find any record of which channels aired in that area other than NBC. I have found all the old promos that are on YouTube & other media but the closest one to my area was WSBK-38 Boston which of course isn’t where I watched it since I lived in New York. If anyone has any record or any kind of information regarding on which channels it was aired or reran in the tri-state area I would be very grateful if they shared here on this forum. |
