Jussie Smollett indicted again for allegedly staging hate crime attack

A Cook County grand jury today indicted the former Empire star on six counts for allegedly making false police reports in reporting his January 2019 hate crime attack. The new charges were announced by special prosecutor Dan Webb, who was appointed last August to determine why local prosecutors suddenly dropped all charges against Smollett last March. Webb said in a statement he "has now completed all of its investigative steps regarding Jussie Smollett, and has made the decision to further prosecute Mr. Smollett. Based on the recommendation of the OSP (Office of the Special Prosecutor), a Cook County grand jury returned a six-count indictment charging Jussie Smollett with making four separate false reports to Chicago Police Department officers related to his false claims that he was the victim of a hate crime, knowing that he was not the victim of a crime." Smollett was originally charged with 16 counts of felony disorderly conduct before Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx suddenly dropped all charges in March following a high-profile police investigation. Webb also found that Foxx may have given Smollett preferential treatment in dismissing the charges against him.
