Former Dallas star Patrick Duffy has opened up about the 'horrific' night both of his parents were murdered 33 years later.

The 70-year-old actor's parents, Terence and Marie Duffy, were shot and killed in the tavern they owned in Boulder, Montana, in November 1986.

'My father kicked these two young men out of the bar at some point in the evening,' Duffy recounted in the most recent issue of Closer Weekly.

'So they went and drank elsewhere... and came back to the bar to kick his a**. When they stepped in the bar with their guns, they shot him. There was nobody else in the bar, so they shot both my mother and my father.'

Duffy recalled going through 'all the emotions of the horrific event - shock and anger and everything', but said he 'never felt disconnected' from his parents.

'I never felt that immediate loss. I did not know why then, but in retrospect, it was a result of being Buddhist,' he explained.

Sean A Wentz and Kenneth A Miller, then both 19, were charged with deliberate homicide and later convicted.

Wentz, the one who fired the fatal shots, was sentenced to 180 years in prison. Miller, his accomplice, was released on parole in 2007.

'I'm okay with that,' Duffy said. 'My point of view is he's already been punished. You know, whether he's in prison or out of prison.'

When he lost his parents, whom he described as 'very social' and 'pretty ordinary, pleasant people', Duffy leaned on his wife, Carlyn Rosser.

In 2017, the actor, who played Bobby Ewing on the popular CBS television series Dallas, faced another devastatingly sudden loss when Rosser died aged 77.

'It was a surprise when she passed,' Duffy said. 'There was no indication. So that was the big adjustment.'

He said the couple's son's, 45-year-old Padriac and 39-year-old Conor, served as his biggest supporters after he lost his wife of 43 years.

'My boys were there as stalwarts,' Duffy said. 'But I also realized that, as much as they were trying to buttress old dad up, I'm probably more adjusted to this set of circumstances than they are.

'You reach a certain age and you realize the road ahead is much shorter than the road behind.'

Two years after Rosser's passing, Duffy said he still feels 'close to her all the time'.

'I can hear her. I can see her,' he said. 'I know what she would expect of me, and I try and live up to that.

'I still consider myself a married man.'

While he works to move forward for the sake of himself and his family, Duffy vowed to continue cherishing his wife's memory.

'There are no mistakes in life,' he said. 'I can mend every fence I've broken and create value out of everything I've done if I’m given enough time. I have done it and I still am doing okay.

'I have worked hard to make the best of life, and it's been good to me.'

Duffy's latest acting venture, the Lifetime TV movie Random Acts of Christmas, hits the small screen on November 17.
