Default Felicity Huffman sentenced to 14 days in prison for college cheating scandal

https://www.thedailybeast.com/felici...ssions-scandal

Federal prosecutors had recommended Huffman serve one month in prison. Instead, she'll serve two weeks. She was also fined $30,000 and ordered to perform 250 hours of community service. Huffman has to report to prison within six weeks. Huffman issued a statement following her sentencing saying: "I accept the court’s decision today without reservation. I have always been prepared to accept whatever punishment Judge Talwani imposed. I broke the law. I have admitted that and I pleaded guilty to this crime. There are no excuses or justifications for my actions. Period. I would like to apologize again to my daughter, my husband, my family and the educational community for my actions. And I especially want to apologize to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices supporting their children." ALSO: CNN legal analyst Elie Honig says Huffman's sentence is "really bad news" for Lori Loughlin.

I give her credit for fessing up to everything. If I were the judge, I would have given her less time in jail, but upped the fine a lot higher than 30K.

Curious how others feel about her punishment.

Surprised she got jail time since she confessed to the whole thing.

On the plus side, at least it's 14 days she doesn't have to have sex with this man:

Felicity Huffman's 14-day prison sentence is a "slap on the wrist" and a "disgrace"

"There is no justice," says Andrea Peyser. "Not when the rich and the powerful, the amoral and the sleazy — liars, cheats and unspeakably entitled thieves of anything and everything they can snatch with their paws from honorable folk — get away with it, time and again." Peyser adds: "I am tired. I’m tired of explaining how this is not a victimless crime, and Huffman not only helped to damage the integrity of higher learning, rendering diplomas worthless, but she attempted to swipe opportunity from another kid. Two weeks (probably reduced in the long run), plus a fine of $30,000, 250 hours of community service and a year of supervised release, may sound like a big deal you and me. To Huffman, it’s less than an hour’s work, plus barely enough time to have her hair and makeup touched up. Maybe she’ll get a memoir or TV movie out of it. In the days leading up to her sentencing, Huffman infuriatingly made herself out to be a victim in a letter to the judge. She painted herself as an insecure, anxious mother (as if there’s another kind) being punished by a sexist system, and complained that she just wanted the best for her daughter. She got some celebrated pals and her famous actor husband William H. Macy, to vouch for her good character. It was a circus. It will only get worse. By the time she’s released from prison, if she ends up actually going to prison at all, she’ll be transformed into something I detest: A martyr." ALSO: Huffman's lawyers requested she serve time in what Forbes calls one of America’s “10 cushiest prisons.”

Felicity Huffman’s "Desperate Housewives" Co-Star Ricardo Chavira Rips 14-Day Sentence as “White Privilege
by Anita Bennett
October 8, 2019

Ricardo Chavira, who co-starred with Felicity Huffman on "Desperate Housewives", is fuming about the 14-day prison sentence the actress received for her role in the college admissions scandal.

Chavira, who played Carlos Solis for eight seasons on the ABC drama, suggested race was a factor in the short sentence the actress received last month from a federal judge in Boston.

White Privilege. And I saw Eight years worth of it, so I know what I’m talking about. Accountability and Responsibility don’t mean **** to these people,” Chavira tweeted, along with a link to a news article about the case.

He followed it up with a second tweet, claiming he witnessed “privilege” and experienced “bias” during his run on the series.

I saw eight years worth of it working on Housewives. I’ve seen a lifetime of it being a halfbreed, and I’ve struggled with the intricacies of it on a daily basis with all the cultural bias I’ve received on both ends. But whatever. Slap on the wrist. Sorry, but this ****,” he wrote.

Here's what prison life is like for Felicity Huffman

The former Desperate Housewives star is supposed to wake up at 5 a.m. and she's allowed to do a variety of things, including listen to music, work on crafts and/or spend time outside between 6:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. ALSO: Alec Baldwin doesn't think anybody should be imprisoned in college cheating scandal: "My heart goes out to Felicity, Bill Macy and their family."

Huffman, serving 13 days in prison for her role in the college cheating scandal, received a visit from husband William H. Macy and her daughter Sophia on Saturday.

Martha Stewart criticizes Felicity Huffman's "schlumpy" prison style

“She should style her outfit a little bit more,” Stewart, a former inmate herself, replied dryly on stage at the Vanity Fair Summit. The audience laughed, so Stewart added: “She looked pretty schlumpy.”
