Default Did anyone draw this weird S back in school?

I'm curious who else is familiar with this. I remember when I was in elementary school and everyone would draw this symbol all the time. Recently I learned it was more widespread but nobody really knows its origin.

The first thing I thought of when I saw that was this...

I do, that sort of thing was popular in the 90s

I remember seeing it around back in the 80's- drawn on jean jackets and Pee Chees. Drawing band logos was popular, so I had always assumed that's what it was.

I never drew it but it reminds me of some of the heavy metal band symbols.

No I didn't, but I was out of school long before the 80's and the 90's.

Never drew it.

Here's a site that talks about where the "s" came from (sort of).
It is older than you think

Interesting article. As far back as 1975 they are saying. I was 12-13 than and don't remember this S at all!

Yes, it was common in 00's England for kids to all be doodling that. I remember it was just a series of straight vertical lines that would join up to form the S.

Interesting article shared above, had no idea its origins were so old.
