I'm curious who else is familiar with this. I remember when I was in elementary school and everyone would draw this symbol all the time. Recently I learned it was more widespread but nobody really knows its origin.

I remember seeing it around back in the 80's- drawn on jean jackets and Pee Chees. Drawing band logos was popular, so I had always assumed that's what it was.

Yes, it was common in 00's England for kids to all be doodling that. I remember it was just a series of straight vertical lines that would join up to form the S.
