Does anybody agree that worst part about the latter episodes is that the writers became self conscious of Julia's rants and tried to cram one in to every episode? They ended up having her rant about random things.

In hindsight, the Julia Sugarbaker character does tend to come across as a judgmental know-it-all. For example, in the episode about AIDS, after they say their PSA lines about how HIV is and isn't transmitted, Julia does a mini rant about how Hollywood was going to stop glamorizing promiscuity because of AIDS. And then she says something very smug and judgmental about how not sleeping around is the classy thing to do.
If something like this aired today, then it would be easier to go online and accuse Julia of "shut shaming" and virtue signalling with her decidedly smug moralizing. |

Can you share what quotes you mean regarding the episode you're talking about? (season 2's "Killing All the Right People"). I don't recall Julia seeming judgmental about anything there. In fact, fans love Julia for throwing Alma Jean out of Sugarbaker's. |
