Question Cancelled/Shortly lived shows that had an ending

Shows that were cancelled but somehow, either the network let them know ahead of time and let them have time to film a finale, or they conveniently ended the season in a way that would leave closure if they didn’t come back, or the producers had a deleted scene that they inserted in syndication.

This is one of the more infamous cases:

I remember the Christina Applegate sitcom, Jesse (1998-2000) getting a proper series finale.

Guns of Will Sonnett, Will and his grandson Jeff set out in search of Will's son and Jeff's father, James Sonnett. Two seasons, final episode Will and Jeff reunite with James Sonnett.

These two series don't exactly count but I thought I would mention them since Frank Aletter was a star in both, The Cara Williams Show and It's About Time. The premise of The Cara Williams Show centered on a married couple (Aletter and Williams) trying to hide that very fact because the company they worked for had a policy against employees marrying each other. The premise was changed during the one season run of the series when Williams revealed the two were married to company head. It's About Time centered around two Astronauts breaking the time barrier finding themselves back in caveman times. The premise didn't work and back they came with a cave family hitching a ride with them. The show lasted one season.

I haven't seen this show in ages so my memory is foggy, but I somewhat remember that Nowhere Man (UPN) ended with the main character finally finding out and confronting the people who were part of conspiracy to make his friends and family pretend they didn't know who he was. That show lasted two seasons.

Ditto Resurrection (ABC). It wrapped up all its loose ends in the second season, as if the writers knew that it would get canceled, but still left room open for a possible third season.

I loved Nowhere Man - would love to see it again

As for Will Sonnett: while that last episode served as an acceptable series finale, it was actually a pilot for a revamp of the series, with the three men settled down as lawmen in a growing town. You’ll notice that they find Jeff Sonnett pretty early in the episode, as opposed to at the end, and then they continue with their first adventure together. But ABC passed on picking up another season.

That scene in IMD was hilarious. I remember watching it, as it aired. My mind was blown. Stuff like that just didn't happen in 1988.

Yes it was but I don't think evading law enforcement is a good basis for a sitcom!
