Some of the cast was recently on the Today Show and Jackee mentioned that she had been full circle with Marla and they are friends and keep in touch. However, didn't they not get along the best on the show which led to Jackee leaving her role during the last season and trying a spin-off show?

Jackee said she was hired only for six episodes and she came from Broadway which was very cut throat. She said, she figured she'd have exactly six chances to show her "stuff" and then be forgotten, so she better make use of it. That is why she played Sandra so "larger than life."

Marla also encouraged Jackee to be as broad and funny as she could. She knew that the funnier Jackee was, the better that was for the show (this is all revealed in bonus feature interviews with the ladies on the "227" season 1 DVD set).
And yes, in season 4 (the penultimate episode, right before the season finale), they had the backdoor pilot for spinoff called "Jackee", even with its own new opening titles! You can watch the episode---with its original titles (syndication often slaps the "227" titles on it instead) here: |
