Default Lori Loughlin’s Future on Netflix's ‘Fuller House’ Looking Dim

...Due To Elite School Bribery Scandal

https://deadline.com/2019/03/lori-lo...ix-1202576193/

Quote:
First it was Hallmark Channel cutting Lori Loughlin loose earlier today after her indicted involvement in the elite college admissions fraud scheme. Now it seems inevitable that Netflix will not be inviting the actor know around the world as Aunt Becky back for the fifth and final season of Fuller House.

While no official final decision has been made by the streamer or distributor Warner Horizon Television on still UTA-repped Loughlin’s Fuller House fate, I’m told the writing is pretty clearly on the wall. A final judgement could come as soon as the next day or so.

The timing wouldn’t be surprising considering the pace of events since the FBI and the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts revealed on March 12 the 50 people indicted for the $25 million scam to fast track kids of the wealthy to top schools with fake athletic credentials or phony SAT scores

In fact, writing is at the core of the solution for Netflix and WB’s production arm when it comes to the Jeff Franklin created show and the scandal drenched Loughlin.

Though a final season of the sequel to the ABC sitcom that ran from 1987 to 1995 was announced at the end of January, a month after Season 4 launched, nothing much has actually happened since. A writer’s room is still in the stages of coming together to pen the last pop culture infused 18 episodes of the Candace Cameron Bure, Andrea Barber and Jodie Sweetin-led series.

Similar to previous cycles, Season 5 of Fuller House looks set to premiere in the last weeks of this year.

All of which means losing the recurring guest role can occur with a line or two of yet to be written dialogue about how Rebecca Donaldson-Katsopolis had to leave San Francisco suddenly. That’s certainly a far cry from the deep re-edits or other “creative solutions” that Hallmark producers are trying to come up on their series that Loughlin starred on.

As they have since the scandal broke on Tuesday, Netflix today had no comment on Loughlin and Fuller House. Warner Horizon TV also had no comment on the matter.

Arrested and arraigned Wednesday in federal court in Los Angeles on conspiracy charges stemming from the nationwide investigation made public the day before by federal investigators, Loughlin is currently out on a $1 million bail bond. Restricted to travel within the continental U.S. and Vancouver for work – though the latter seems irrelevant now that Hallmark-owning Crown Media Family Networks said Thursday that “we are no longer working with” the actor whatsoever.

The long running Loughlin starring Garage Sale Mysteries TV movie franchise has been immediately cancelled by Hallmark as of today. At the same time, producers for the top rated and definitely not canceled When Calls The Heart are exploring a variety of options to continue without Loughlin’s Abigail Station character for the rest of the just debuted sixth season and beyond.

As part of a year-long investigation that charged American Crime star Felicity Huffman and 30 other parents, Loughlin and her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli were caught trying to juice the system. The couple are accused of paying “bribes totaling $500,000 in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team — despite the fact that they did not participate in crew — thereby facilitating their admission to USC,” according to the 200-page indictment.

Like what went down in her husband’s arraignment on March 12 Loughlin is set to appear in court next on March 29 for preliminary hearing in Boston. On the other hand, while the charges carry a sentence of potentially five years behind bars, no one expects it likely that Huffman, Loughlin or many of the white collar others will spend anywhere near that in jail, if at all.

I kind of think everyone’s being too hard on her. If she committed a crime, let her pay the price, but let’s try to avoid the shame and condemnation.

Why Lori Loughlin's indictment hit a nerve: She had built a lucrative brand playing wholesome characters

Loughlin's role in the alleged college bribery scam contrasted with her wholesome roles on Full House, Fuller House and on Hallmark Channel. It took two days for Hallmark Channel to drop Loughlin, who had become the face of the cable channel with roles on When Calls the Heart, the Garage Sale Mysteries movies and "Countdown to Christmas" films. "For fans of Full House, Loughlin’s indictment was an especially shocking reveal, as it was another example of a celebrity’s real life apparently being very different from their TV character and public persona," says Emily Yahr. "While we all know, in theory, that we actually have no clue how our favorite actors live, sometimes what we see on-screen has a deeper effect on our psyche than we realize." There was similar, but lesser shock over Felicity Huffman's involvement because of her Desperate Housewives role. The Los Angeles Times' Mary McNamara wrote a piece titled, “We’re used to celebrity scandals, but oh my God, Felicity Huffman?” As Yahr notes: "While the thinkpieces and memes continue, the apparent downfall of Loughlin and Huffman is a stark reminder of the cliche-but-true-lesson: Now matter how rich, famous or successful a person seems, we never really know what may be going on behind closed doors."

Never watched Full House, but as far as celebrity scandals go, this college thing is pretty minor and it paints Lori & the other celebs as both, really bad parents AND really good parents, so I think the whole thing is pretty much a wash.

It's not like this is a Kevin Spacey-type situation.

No it's minor compared to some of the stuff that happens out in Hollyweird. Still disappointing though. And it's another example of we really don't know anything about these people other than what they pretend to be in public. I'm really shocked about Lori though.

This whole situation is so stupid. No way should she lose her job over this, let her pay for the crime she committed but don’t scrutinize the lady. It’s not like she raped someone or anything.

True, but still Lori by the looks of things, still committed a federal crime. And Lori and her husband look even worst considering that their daughter out and out admitted that she didn't care about going to college and getting an education.

It's such a pointless situation, especially as I believe that Lori's daughter has a YouTube channel that generates decent income. The family would have been better off putting that money towards moving her online career to the next level, rather than using it to bribe her way into college, an institution that really doesn't matter anymore unless you're looking for a career in the medical or legal fields.

Fuller House stars seem to express support for Lori Loughlin at Kids' Choice Awards

Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber didn't mention Loughlin's name while picking up the award for Favorite Funny TV Show on Saturday, but they sure implied their support for her. “Family sticks together no matter what,” Cameron Bure said from the awards stage. “They stick together through the hard times. They support each other, they encourage one another, they pray for each other and they stand by their side no matter how tough it gets. And a loving family that sticks together also celebrates the really good times together.” Sweetin added: “Yes, and this is one of those good times." While an earlier report suggested that Loughlin isn't expected to return for Fuller House's final season, Deadline reports that Netflix hasn't made a final decision on whether she'll return following her indictment. ALSO: Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy's daughter' high school is reeling from the college cheating scandal.

Why Fuller House stars' apparent support of Lori Loughlin at Kids' Choice Awards was a masterful PR move

Candace Cameron Bure and Jodie Sweetin managed to earn their Netflix series the most headlines out of the Kids' Choice Awards while having the "plausible deniability" of never having mentioned Loughlin's name or her college cheating scandal, says Emily Yahir. They also didn't have to take follow-up questions. Meanwhile, they "look like kind and supportive people," says Yahr. "That kind of goodwill can’t be underestimated."

How Fuller House could write out Aunt Becky

Here are six ideas for writing off Lori Loughlin's character following her college cheating scandal indictment -- if she had to be written out.

Sorry to see her career ending because of her bribery and cheating, but Hollywood has short attention spans, and in five years, if she's out of jail, she'll find work again. They always do.

Lori must be one of those quiet, ambitious narcissists who wanted to project a certain image, and look where it got her.

I know where Candace was trying to come from, but to me, she has come across as too much of an enabler for Lori which is not what the Lord wants us to do where people who do wrong are concerned. Lori wouldn't have been thrown under a bus or anything else if Candace had decided to remain quiet. Candace was under no obligation to make that speech and yes, we are to forgive and pray for people like she said, but that does not mean that we are to pick up a pair of pom poms and start cheer leading for the wrong doer which is what Candace became guilty of when she decided to say that family sticks together, especially if Lori has no regrets about her what she herself did.

God bless you and the rest of the show's cast always!!!

Holly

P.S. One more thing to keep in mind is that a positive product is never what you get when multiplying a positive times a negative anyway and if members of your family decide to be negative, it can only make you wonder how the rest of the planet is. What a lovely example Lori has set for both of her families and yes that is sarcasm.
