The disgraced comedian is performing with days of advanced notice, for the first time since his sexual misconduct scandal, on Wednesday and Thursday night at the San Jose Improv. In response, the San Jose-based Enough is Enough Voter Project and San Jose Women's March say they are organizing a protest against CK. Both shows quickly sold out. San Jose improv defends booking Louis CK Protesters are planning to descend on the comedy club tonight and Thursday after it booked the disgraced comedian and announced his gig days in advance. “We see comedy as the final frontier and we don’t censor artists. We want them to perform without scrutiny," San Jose Improv said in a statement. "We trust that our audiences can decide for themselves what their limits are. We understand that not everyone will agree with our decision and we respect their right to protest. We also respect Louis CK’s right to perform.” UPDATE: About 30 protesters showed up in the rain, chanting "Shame!" and "San Jose, not Man Jose." Louis CK unapologetic in his latest show: “I like to jerk off, and I don’t like being alone" The disgraced comedian received a standing ovation at San Jose Improv last night in his first standup performance since his sexual misconduct scandal that was announced days beforehand. About 30 protesters showed up, including one man who was punched in the face after yelling at ticket-holders through a bullhorn. The Daily Beast reports that CK wasted no time addressing his sexual harassment controversy. "You’ve read the worst possible things you could read about a person, about me, and you’re here," he said. He later addressed his Parkland joke controversy. “If you ever need people to forget that you jerked off, what you do is you make a joke about kids that got shot,” he said. He later received a lot of groans joking about 9/11. "There was none of that old charming self-deprecation on display in this show," says The Daily Beast's Stacey Solie. "There were a lot of tired jokes, including one that sparked loud criticism after his previous show about black men having large d*cks, and Asian men having small ones “because they’re all women.” San Jose improv hired additional security for CK's performance, one of three scheduled this week. Audience members were also required to put their phones in sealed cases so that they wouldn't be able to record CK's performance. |
