Default NBC should have snagged WKRP!

After CBS cancelled WKRP, NBC should have picked it up! It would have been perfect for its Thursday night lineup! Between Gimme a Break and Cheers!

Well, maybe NBC did try to have the show air on their schedule, but MTM Enterprises said no.

I can only imagine it would of been easier said than done. Though I do wish it could of continued on another network. We did get The New WKRP In Cincinnati years later. But unfortunately it didn't capture the essence of the original series.

As do I. Considering RCA's music division and Grant Tinker being the chairman NBC would have been tbe right home for it. And it would have been perfect for Thursday nights between Gimme a Break and Cheers

Taxi didn’t do so well on NBC so I don’t think WKRP would have fared any better.

I wonder why TAXI was a fail on NBC? Actually for the era, Taxi felt more like an NBC show than an ABC show.

I wonder if CBS could've possibly reversed their decision to cancel WKRP? If I have my facts straight, right after they cancelled the series, it started to rise in the ratings over the summer as people tuned in to see the shows they missed during the regular season. It was consistently in the top 10 or 20 that summer of 1982.

They did and were planning to bring WKRP back but it was too late. Gary Sandy' Loni Anderson, and Howard Hesseman alll committed to other project students

It's a huge shame what happened to WKRP! It's one of the neatest and coolest multi cam sitcoms I've seen! A huge part of that series' problem that seemed to plague it during it's 4 years was that it never had a consistent schedule. The days of the week and times it aired were all over the place! At one point during the final season I read somewhere a few episodes aired late at night even!

What happened at the end to my understanding was CBS cancelled it. Then they got reruns on during the summer. During the summer of '82 they finally, FINALLY got it on a consistent schedule...same day and time every week. Ratings went through the damn roof and it was number 1 in its time slot for most of that summer! It did so phenomenally they saw cancellation was a mistake, they tried to reverse it but it was too late. Sets had been taken apart and everyone had signed to new projects. They did their damndest to reverse.

I think NBC would have been the exact right fit for it, perhaps they did try to get it we'll never know. I really would like to see all of New WKRP but until there's an official DVD or digital release that will be difficult unfortunately.

it was only the final 2 seasons that CBS moved it all around (11 times!!!)The first 2 seasons were on Mondays at 9:30 right after MASH.
