October 2018 Update

Those of you who have enjoyed CHCH's retro schedule over the past couple of years and would like to see more of this on other Canadian channels are going to love this news.

CHCH is an independent station that is owned by a company called Channel Zero which also operates other channels that air classic movies from Hollywood's Golden Era: Rewind has movies from the 1970s and 1980s, and Silver Screen Classics goes way back from the 1930s to the 1960s.

Starting Monday, through the courtesy of CHCH's programming library, for the first time, Silver Screen Classics will be making room for a few classics from the small screen as well. Some of the great sitcoms of the past will be sharing air time with film legends like Shirley Temple, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Humphrey Bogart ---- and Samantha Stephens!!

That's right! Samantha and "Bewitched" will be part of an absolutely stunning retro sitcom block which will run each weekday from 12 noon to 2 pm and repeated later that evening from 10 pm to midnight:

12:00 pm Bewitched
12:30 I Dream Of Jeannie
1:00 The Partridge Family
1:30 The Monkees

At first, seeing these shows come on in the middle of all those great movies might be a little hard to get used to, but the idea is not a new one. US channels like AMC, Get TV, and THIS Tv have been doing it successfully for a few years now, yet this is the first time I have heard of a Canadian station trying it out. I think this experiment will succeed as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if CHCH and Channel Zero decide to spread the wealth around a little further before the end of the year and add a few shows to Rewind as well, possibly MASH or Mary Tyler Moore. I'll keep a close watch on this and let you know what happens.

Great news! Thanks for the update. CHCH has a great line up during that time but I definitely have been missing Bewitched and I'll be watching starting tomorrow. I would have missed it if you hadn't posted. Thank you!!

It's nice to see those shows returning though I don't subscribe to that channel. Seeing as they show only public domain movies it would be good if they added some horror and sci-fi films, there's a large number of them in the public domain and they hardly show any at all, would be nice to see especially at this time of year.

I preferred last year's CHCH retro schedule, this year's seems a bit like too much of a good thing. Not enough sixties shows, I miss Leave It to Beaver which CKVR aired for years. It would fit in nicely on CHCH, oh well maybe next year.

CHCH 2019 UPDATE

In February, CHCH's retro lineup will go through a couple of changes in the afternoon lineup. Both "Lost In Space" and "Mork and Mindy" will finish their series runs and will be replaced by "Fantasy Island" at 3 pm and "The Facts Of Life" at 4 pm. "Rhoda" will likely be gone by March and its replacement has yet to be announced.
