She left the series because she was mad when she couldn't accept the role in "Kramer vs. Kramer" that won Meryl Streep an Oscar. She had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts. She quit after the third season.

Kate Jackson hated the scripts on Charlie's Angels, and she never warmed to Cheryl Ladd. As previously brought up, she was also pissed off because Aaron Spelling wouldn't give her time off to take the Meryl Streep role in Kramer vs. Kramer, and wanted out. Late in her last season, she threw a big temper tantrum because of "Marathon Angels."

What was her issue with the episode?

I don't know the exact details but it basically boiled down to Kate feeling that it had a very weak script and much of the episode focused on the skimpily attired marathoners.

Definitely one of my least fav episodes... except for the see-through top the kidnapped girl was wearing inside the van. I have no idea how this got past the censors.

Kate was also apparently livid when Barney Rosenzweig quit half-way through the first season. She thought his scripts were somewhat intelligent, but either the network and/or Aaron Spelling wanted him gone because they wanted to dumb down the scripts to emphasize the jiggle factor.

She sure seemed to get mad a LOT! BTW, I think 'Kramer vs. Kramer' would have bombed with her playing Meryl Streep's part- in no part due to not having the warmth needed for the role for the overwhelmed wife and mother who flew the coop yet somehow stayed sympathetic to the audience! She barely seemed to tolerate the kids on 'Scarecrow and Mrs. King' and that character was supposed to be a fulltime SAHM mother when the series started!

I don't know if it would've 'bombed', but no guarantee it would've be as successful with Kate playing that role. The story and director had a lot to do with that movie being a success as well. Yes, Kate could be bitchy and demanding at times.

Kate Jackson apparently in general, wanted Charlie's Angels to be a show about strong, capable women doing things on their own, and Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg wanted sexy T&A, so the resulting series was a meeting in the middle.
