Fox Cancels "Lucifer"
"Lucifer" Canceled at Fox
by Michael Ausielllo May 11, 2018 Fox is going to catch hell for this: Despite a noisy Hail Mary effort from fans, the network has axed "Lucifer" after three seasons. The Tom Ellis-fronted drama topped our Cancellation Countdown poll, with TVLine readers naming it the “bubble” show they most hoped to see renewed this month. "Lucifer" wound up with 8.05 percent of all votes, edging out Timeless’ 7.81 percent. (All told, nearly 350,000 ballots were cast.) Averaging a 0.8 demo rating and 3.3 million total weekly viewers through its April 30 outing (per Live+Same Day numbers), "Lucifer" ranks 10th and eighth among all Fox dramas this TV season, and is down 20 percent in the demo from its sophomore season. Star Tom Ellis tweeted: “It has been the most amazing experience over the past 3 years playing Lucifer and falling in love with you, the fans. It fills me with great sadness to confirm the rumours that some of you have been asking. Fox has indeed cancelled #lucifer I’m so sorry guys. #gutted” http://tvline.com/2018/05/11/lucifer...fox-tom-ellis/ |

Fox Brass on "Lucifer" Cancellation
by Nellie Andreeva May 14, 2018 Fox made #SaveLucifer the top trending topic on Twitter with its decision to cancel the Tom Ellis-starring series after three seasons. Cancelling "Lucifer" was “a ratings-based decision; we had very a successful late year with all four new dramas renewed,” Fox chairman Gary Newman said during Fox’s upfront press call today. “We felt like performance-wise, we needed to make that change.” http://deadline.com/2018/05/lucifer-...on-1202390233/ |

"Lucifer's" Tom Ellis Opens Up About Cancellation, #SaveLucifer Campaign's "Tsunami of Love": "I Will Keep Fighting"
by Matt Webb Mitovich May 14, 2018 As if "Lucifer" fans needed another gut-punch relating to Fox’s cancellation of the comic book-based drama, here’s another one courtesy of Tom Ellis. “I couldn’t have been in a higher place when I got the news,” the series star shared with TVLine on Monday, hours ahead of the Season 3 finale (airing tonight at 8/7c). “I had finished a fan convention in Rome, and I was my way back to the hotel in a mini-bus with my mates from the Supernatural cast, when I got a call from [co-showrunner] Joe [Henderson]. I had just left a room full of love, of adulating fans, when he said the show was over. I was like, ‘What?’” “Honestly, I was a bit shocked. I went into some weird shock,” Ellis continued. “I just wasn’t expecting it, it really pulled the rug. And then it really went through me, how much I cared about the show, and I was really, really sad. I couldn’t quite believe it.” "Lucifer" this season has averaged a 0.8 demo rating, ranking 10th among all Fox dramas that aired this season (tied with the newly renewed Gotham) and only besting the recently excised "The Exorcist". (Fox execs on Monday morning explained that because of strong performances by midseason dramas "9-1-1" and "The Resident", and with "Thursday Night Football" now filling one night, ratings-challenged "Lucifer" fell by the wayside.) But through his travels, Ellis suspects the fandom is underrepresented — as further suggested by the #SaveLucifer campaign that arose over the weekend. “The weird thing was when the news broke [about the cancellation], that’s when I started feeling better, because the response has been nothing short of ridiculously overwhelming,” Ellis marvels. “Since doing Lucifer, I’ve done press in various parts of the world, and I’m fully aware that this show is much more popular than what it had seemed to be on Fox. Our figures suggested that lots of people watch the show, just not necessarily on Fox. So in a weird way, I’m not surprised about people being angry. I just wasn’t ready this tsunami of love that came with it.” The #SaveLucifer movement “has created a conversation,” Ellis says. As for whether it will bear any fruit, “I don’t want to promise anything for anybody, because there are so many things that have to align for things to happen…,” he ventures. “But I didn’t have hope, and I do have hope now. And as long as there is hope, I will keep fighting. Because I think that’s what our fans want us to do.” In the meantime, Ellis urges viewers to catch the season finale, for two reasons. “We are so proud of it; it’s a really cracking episode of Lucifer.” Plus, “If we are to leave it there, which I really, really don’t want to, the finale will at least honor the time you’ve put into the show thus far — and then really frustate you!” he says with a chuckle, echoing Henderson’s cliffhanger warning. “We were just getting going!” http://tvline.com/2018/05/14/lucifer...ifer-campaign/ |

Lucifer's Tom Ellis: "I went into some weird shock" after hearing cancelation news
“I just wasn’t expecting it, it really pulled the rug," says Ellis, who learned the news after attending a fan convention in Rome. "And then it really went through me, how much I cared about the show, and I was really, really sad. I couldn’t quite believe it.” As for the #SaveLucifer campaign, he says: "I didn’t have hope, and I do have hope now. And as long as there is hope, I will keep fighting. We Finally Know why Fox Canceled "Lucifer"
by Kaitlin Thomas Aug 2, 2018 To say that fans were a little peeved when Fox canceled the fan-favorite series "Lucifer" after three seasons is an understatement. The response on social media was so deafening that eventually Netflix swooped in to save the Tom Ellis-led series. But according to Dana Walden, chairman and CEO of Fox Television Group, the social campaign to save "Lucifer" never once made Fox executives think twice about bringing the show back the way NBC twice brought back "Timeless" after canceling it. "We had a great time working with that cast and the executive producers of the show. It worked well for us," Walden said Thursday at the Television Critics Association Summer press tour. "But as we were going into this season, we looked at the size of the audience, which was starting to get pretty narrow. We just made a determination that given ... it was owned by an outside studio, at the time we couldn't justify the economics. It was not an inexpensive show, and we just made a decision that ultimately it wasn't performing to a broad enough audience in a way that worked for us." "We thought a lot about the decision to cancel the show," she added. "It was a lot of conversations." https://www.tvguide.com/news/why-lucifer-canceled-fox/ |

So I'm guessing if Fox owned the show, they'd make more money off of it and they might have renewed it? I'm just glad Netflix wanted it. |
