Why didn't Bonnie Franklin perform much on screen after ODAAT ended in 1984

Is it true that she refused a few offers because she wanted more control over potential projects? More to the point, she allegedly wanted directors who would kiss her butt and not challenge her. Basically, she wanted a producer that she could bully and dominate. That’s apparently why she adored Norman Lear. Any other producer would put her in place and would smack her down.

Norman Lear gave her carte blanche for some reason and total control of the show apparently.

Mary Louise Wilson couldn't stand her and thought she was pretentious.

I wonder what Dick Bensfield thought of her...

I never met the woman so I don't know how she was personally. Seems like maybe she was difficult to get along with, I don't know. What I do know is that I think she was attractive when she wore her hair longer and that's about all I can say on the subject.

OK, that's what I had originally thought but wasn't sure.

There is the episode where she gave Julie a smack, and didn't she smack Alex too one time when he was being ornery? I don't recall any episode where she smacked Barbara, not sure if she smacked her or not. But yes, Ann could be wicked nasty sometimes whenever the script writer called for it. I don't like those moments but this is a Norman Lear show so it's to be expected.
