Hamill recalled his brief stint with Gary Busey on The Texas Wheelers, which he describes as a "discordant reply to The Waltons.” The sitcom ran in the 1974-75 season. “When the show was canceled, it was one of the biggest traumas of my life," says Hamill. “I was devastated. I thought, 'I'll never get a part that good again.’” He added on Twitter: “If this had been a hit- I would not have been available for #StarWars.”

There are lots of cases like that in Hollywood history. Some turn out good & some turn out horrible.

Like Jerry Van Dyke choosing to do My Mother the Car rather than Gilligan's Island!

I know it's not the exact same thing but you get the idea.

Interesting story. Let's not forget that Hamill played David Bradford in the pilot episode of "Eight Is Enough" before he was replaced by Grant Goodeve for the remainder of its run.

I have never seen Star Wars movie but i did see Mark in the Texas Wheelers and the pilot of 8 is Enough.

I've read Jerry Van Dyke turned down Gilligan's Island because he thought the plot was "too silly". Like the premise of My Mother The Car wasn't silly and ridiculous?! LOL.

LMAO! Exactly!

I wish they'd show reruns on one of the classic TV channels just to see what it was like. I know I can likely get it somewhere else but they should show a few episodes just for kicks.

Antenna TV had MMTC on their schedule several years ago and I watched an episode.

I don't think they play it anymore but it's possible they will in the future.

he turned it down because he read the script (I assume the script for the pilot) and thought it was "the worst piece of crap I ever read!"
