Default TV’s 8 Worst Plot Twists

A plot twist can make or break a TV show. When they are good, they are great, but when they are bad, they can seriously lower the quality of the series. We have a list of 7 of our favorite shows that gave some of the worst plot twists. Check it out:

Interesting list. But I've never watched any of those shows myself.

Any show (and I mean ANY) that uses the "it was all a dream and none of this storyline/plotline ever happened" garbage. I absolutely hate that and it really doesn't make any sense, except maybe in science fiction sometimes.

8 worst plot twists by someone who hasn't watched TV earlier than the 90's.

No Dallas. List invalid.

There's no plot twist like a season finale TV show plot twist. From X-Files to Simpsons, all the best TV shows have some kind of unexpected moments and twists that keep audiences coming back. Unfortunately, even great shows have some really really dumb moments and twists that are either unnecessary or just too stupid to be forgiven. So join WatchMojo.com as we count down our picks for the worst twists in television history.

I don't feel like #8, Buffy's sister Dawn, was a bad plot twist. There had been hints since Season Three that Buffy had a sister, so the writers spent years carefully building in and incorporating the plot twist.

Also, I can't believe they said Newhart's ending was "bad". That was brilliant.

4. The O.C.

In the season three finale, it really seemed as though Marissa was going to go off and work with her dad on a cruise ship, which would have been a better ending than the plot twist the writers threw at us. Instead of letting her go off and live working on a boat, they decided to have her die in a tragic car accident. While some people hated her character, after she was killed off the series, the show never really recovered. People began tuning in less and even the creator Josh Schwartz admitted that killing Marissa off had been a big mistake. You don’t say!
You don't say, indeed. To be fair, I had even stopped following the show already before this had happened. But when I heard about Marissa being killed off, I just knew that I hadn't missed a thing.

I was a big fan of "Ghost Whisperer" when it aired and when they killed off the husband and threw his soul into another body yet still kept the same actor, I tuned out forever. It was the worst most ridiculously absurd, unneeded plot twists ever and ruined the whole show. Then soon after, they did an even more absurd 5 year jump in plot to where they had a 5 year old Damien type child and the show crashed and burned.

When I think of TV's worst plot twists, this immediately comes to mind.

Had they done that soul/body switching with a secondary character like the Camryn Manheim character I would have been ok with it , but you don't mess with beloved main characters like that. Up to that point in the show was it was fantastic but never recovered from that ridiculous twist and was soon cancelled from plummeting ratings.
