"Gotham" Renewed for Fifth & Final Season at Fox

The Batman origin story will get one final chapter on Fox. The network has ordered a fifth season of "Gotham", which will be the DC Comics drama’s last. I hear it will likely air in midseason.

In addition, the final season will focus on Bruce Wayne’s transformation into the caped crusader. Per the producers — “the fifth and final season will wrap up this unique origin story of the great DC Comics Super-villains and vigilantes, which revealed an entirely new chapter that has never been told.”

In allowing Gotham to wrap things up, Fox says “this season will reveal one of the most popular superheroes of our time ... the final season will focus on Bruce Wayne’s transformation into the caped crusader.” The final season will likely consist of 13 episodes. Gotham has been averaging 2.62 million viewers in Season 4. The final season pickup was important for Warner Bros. TV as it has a huge Netflix deal for the show, worth about $1.75 million per episode in what was the first subscription video on demand deal for a broadcast TV series completed before its premiere.

Gotham star says the final season will consist of just 10 episodes
Camren Bicondova said in an Instagram chat that the fifth and final season will consist of 10 episodes, instead of the expected 13. She also said the final season will premiere in January. Fox has yet to confirm an episode order or return date.
