"Cagney & Lacey" Reboot Pilot Ordered at CBS

CBS continues to bet on classic series reboots, giving pilot orders to new incarnations of "Magnum P.I." and "Cagney & Lacey".

"Cagney & Lacey" is a reboot of the iconic 1980s police procedural starring Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless, which ran on CBS for seven seasons.

Written and executive produced by Bridget Carpenter, the series will follow two female police detectives and friends who keep the streets of L.A. safe.

CBS TV Studios is co-producing with MGM Television.

Sarah Drew goes from Grey's Anatomy to Cagney & Lacey, joining Blindspot alum Michelle Hurd
Drew has quickly landed a pilot a week after being dropped from Grey's Anatomy, joining the CBS reboot of the classic police procedural. According to Deadline, "Drew will play LAPD Detective Cagney, Lacey’s nimble and easygoing partner and protégée. Hurd’s Lacey is athletic, polished, a former high school track and field champion. Empathetic and straightforward, she’s the more experienced partner." Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless won six acting Emmys between them starring on the original Cagney & Lacey, which won two best drama series Emmys during its seven-season run. Hurd is no stranger to reboots of popular franchises. In fact, she's had recent guest appearances on Lethal Weapon and Hawaii Five-0.

Cagney & Lacey lands Ving Rhames
He'll co-star alongside Sarah Drew and Michelle Hurd on the CBS drama revival pilot, playing Police Capt. Stark, the LAPD Homicide Coordinator. Rhames is no stranger to starring on a reboot of a classic series. He took on the Telly Savalas role on CBS' 2005 revival of Kojak.

Poor Sarah Drew is Out of Work Again

It just ain’t right. Sarah Drew — who learned earlier this spring that this season of "Grey’s Anatomy" would be her last — will not be starring in a new CBS drama, either.

Shortly after word circulated of her availability, CBS cast her in a reboot of "Cagney & Lacey". She was going to play Cagney opposite Michelle Hurd’s Lacey.

But not for long, unfortunately. EW learned today that CBS passed on the pilot and went with a reboot of "Magnum P.I." instead. Boo!
