The show ran from 1978 to 1991 and made household names of most of its stars, after a global audience of around 350million tuned in weekly to watch the fortunes of oil barons the Ewing family, who lived at Southfork Ranch, play out on screen - including their bitter feud with rival family, the Barnes.

Aside from Bobby's rebirth, other moments that left audiences glued to their screens included 'Who shot JR?', a seminal plot-line that saw many of the Ewing and Barnes family suspects in the murder of the patriarchal cowboy.

The episode, which aired on November 21st, 1980, became the most-watched episode in the show's history.
