It ran 5 seasons and was a top 10 hit for 3 of them. The reason it didn't last longer is because star Brett Butler had a lot of personal problems that came onto the set.

So it wasn't short lived after all. I knew by midseason in season 5 ABC cancelled it because it was becoming too much to handle Brett Butler and her problems, but I never knew how bad it was. I heard it all started when she became an alcoholic again.

The show wasn't the same by then. They recast the part of her son to make him older ( she had flashed the kid who originally played her son and his parents made him quit), and her co-star Julie White who played Nadine just got tired of it and quit too. They said she left her husband which was a stupid way to get rid of a character since they just had a baby. Then by the last season they brought in some new characters that just weren't very good. And yea she had an alcolhol problem too. She totally ruined the show because the first 3 years it was a great sitcom.

Too bad it doesn't air anywhere on cable or in syndication, and I wonder why DVD's of aren't out yet. I'd love to buy them. DO you know what company (if any) owns the DVD rights to this show?

It was airing on the Oxygen cable network. I don't know if it still is or not. The producers were Carsey and Warner , the same ones who were responsible for TCS and Roseanne. Since most of their other shows are out on DVD, you would think this one would be.

I've noticed it still airs on Oxygen in daytime marathon formats, once in awhile. It seems like the only sitcom Oxygen ever airs, though, is Roseanne.

Hey, at least Roseanne is getting more action on Oxygen than Nick at Nite.

The final episode has to be seen to be believed. Brett with her hair slicked back in ten pounds of oil, mumbling her lines, having problems standing up, and is clearly high as a kite. Poor Julia Duffy was brought in to play a wacky friend who becomes Grace's roommate. The whole thing is bizarre with everyone acting while ignoring the doped up elephant in the room who just happens to be the star of the show. And then they add a blooper reel at the end, to remind you that there were even worse screw ups that happened.
