The Last Week Tonight host delved last night into the subject of economic development and the tax incentives TV shows receive in various states. Noting that the topic could be boring, Oliver played a clip from the Entourage movie, and said there are worse things his viewers could be watching. On the subject of Amazon asking for tax incentives, Oliver described Goliath as a show that “literally nobody has ever seen. Nobody. No human. No animal. Nobody.” |

I love John Oliver and he is my favorite of the political oriented political comedians. He does have a liberal bent a little, but he humorously pokes fun at the absolute absurdity of the body politick of the United States. I actually learned a lot when he talked about Amazon and huge tax breaks to lure companies to their area, and how unfair and counterproductive these plans are.
My complaints about Showtime/HBO type shows (although in my opinion HBO has gotten away from this a bit) is just the tastelessness of some of their shows. Where Matt Dillion's brother said on the boat that he needs to masterbate before meting the girl on the boat is tasteless and stupid. In real life, the other guys would have looked at him like a freak. What a dumb comment. Just lazy writing and saying crap like that because the network can get away with that. |
