TV Creator Michael Jacobs Reveals What Would Have Happened in GMW's 4th Season

"Girl Meets World" Creator Reveals What Fans Would Have Seen in Season 4
by Andy Swift
May 4 2017

Just one day after announcing that "Girl Meets World" will not be returning through an alternate platform, the Disney Channel sitcom’s creator took to Twitter to reveal what could have been.

Michael Jacobs had promised fans that he would reveal his plans for Season 4, should the show not be picked up — and on Thursday, he proved himself to be a man of his word.

Season 4 would’ve shown that what drew Farkle, Lucas and Zay to Riley and Maya was the deep friendship and respect they had for each other,” he tweeted from the writers’ account.

And their relationship was the guide in how to meet the world. Especially our current world. Because to find love, friendship and respect must be at the center of it. Cory and Topanga always knew that. So, as you all meet this world, we wish you friendship, respect and love.

Additionally, he confirmed that “Auggie and Ava were forever.” (As if there was any doubt!)

Jacobs concluded by saying, “All of us at [Boy Meets World] and GMW have loved bringing you these stories. We hope we have taught you to dream, try and do good. Class dismissed.

And with that, Jacobs has officially closed the book on his Cory Matthew’s 24-year-long saga.

Girl Meets World failed because they pushed the adored characters to the side and expected the audience to love new characters right off the bat. It was doomed to fail. Only way that show would have worked is if it was built around the original characters and the kids were the background characters (like Fuller House). They didn't do that and combined with the creatively stifling Disney platform (every episode was some ham-fisted lesson in how special the universe is and how awesome it is that they are all friends), it had no shot.

In other words, everyone would have just kept hovering around Riley like she was a queen bee instead of attempting any kind of autonomy which teens normally do re their friends and love interests- and the show would have just kept going nowhere fast.

I also think if the show had made any attempts to have been real like BMW, not only would Riley's pals have called her on her diva tude ( Shawn Cory and Topanga all DID call each other's flaws on BMW)but also they'd likely have decided she wasn't all that and they'd thrive without needing her stamp of approval or even hanging around her all the time.

Yeah, so great that they didn't consider doing anything new or different with their characters (e.g. how Shawn and Katy would have raised Maya together and maybe had a child of their own).

At least Auggie and Ava managed to have lives without having to constantly hover around Riley which is more than can be said for virtually any other character in this latter day series.

Oh, and Cory& Topanga were complete fails as parents to Riley letting her get away with tantrums, etc. with no real consequences.
