TV MVPs – The Real O’Neals Hit Their Chaotic Stride

The Real O’Neals is not the first sitcom to focus on the trials and tribulations of an Irish Catholic American family, but it is doing better in the ratings than many that have come and gone before. A big part of the reason is that it focuses on some of the serious, major social issues that can test any family’s bonds, especially one that is Irish and Catholic. Divorce, teenage homosexuality and anorexia, and kids questioning the faith in which they are raised are just the four biggest issues the writers and actors have had to tackle each week since the show made its mid-season debut in March. It is a tough job, but one that star Martha Plimpton and her cast hope they can keep doing for a second season. Although ABC has not confirmed that they will bring them back for a second season, neither has it made a decision to cancel the series, which means there is still hope for The Real O’Neals and their fans.
