I think bencasey makes an excellent point about the decline of the independant TV stations in America.Where I live in Columbus Ohio there is a very low powered Channel 19 that now plays only infomercials and is not even on the cable system. You have to pick it up with rabbit ears.Even then you have to have an outdoor antenna or amplified antenna to get it to come in perfect.Up till about 5 years ago there was some programming like old black and white westerns, horror movies and some independant wrestling. Now next to nothing save for a few evangelical shows.I can't believe they even broadcast considering almost nobody watches this channel. If they were to somehow land on cable they would have to be affiliated with some network. That will never happen. It's sad everything in this country is so corporatized.

When Infinity Communications last year dropped their oldies station in Baltimore in favor of one of those "Jack" stations, they brought up this "we can't sell to fifty year olds" crap. The funny thing about that was is that "Jack" is doing about 40% less business than what the oldies station did.

I would love to see how Viacom, Infinity, Clear Channel, NBC and so forth do their "studies" when it comes to their viewers and listeners. Not every 23 year old is into smoking Marlboro Lights, listening to modern rock, poker games and watching Dog the bounty hunter nor is every 57 year old ready for the old folks home.
I understand that, I was responding to the woman who made a stupid, uneducated broad statement about people born after 1975. BTW: Yes, not every 23 year old does those things you stated. In fact, where I live,(Laguna Beach born and raised), NO ONE barely watches Dog the Bounty Hunter nor smoke Marlboro lights. I get what you were saying.

Okay, smoking Kools and watching Laguna Beach. Same difference.

It seems like they should come out with a TV Land Classics channel now with all the 80's and 90's content currently airing on TV Land.Just think. This could open up time slots on the new channel to air shows like Dennis The Menace,Mayberry RFD,Hazel,Bewitched,I Dream of Jeannie,Petticoat Junction,The Honeymooners,Father Knows Best, etc etc.Does anyone here think it would be a good idea for a branch out classics channel for TV Land?
YES DEFINATELY!! I'm in agreement, in fact I'm going request it on their website.

Default Re; TV Land: Will they add another network?

If they added another network, on it they should, at least, devote Friday and Saturday nights to classic MOWs, a 2-hour one on Fridays, and 2 90-minute ones on Saturday.

Interesting that it's almost 10 years later and in that time, there have been numerous classic TV channels added to more than make up for what TV Land stopped airing. Things have a way of working out right ? : )

All of the great independent stations disappeared when Fox and these other crappy "networks" appeared. There really is no longer an outlet or desire for older shows, save for a few evergreens. Even something like The Fugitive, maybe the best drama of all time, doesn't really run anymore.
I very much agree with this. It's one of the reasons I've been collecting DVD series of the old shows I enjoyed. If I really want to see them, I know I can't rely on TV for that. The classic shows bring back such fond memories. Every so often I catch The Andy Griffith Show on TV Land and the number of commercials is just insane; I can't enjoy the show. I really gave up on that channel years ago and whenever I happen upon it, it takes about 10 seconds to remember why.
