Archie Panjabi is Leaving "The Good Wife"
Archie Panjabi Exiting "The Good Wife"
by Natalie Abrams Oct 15, 2014 Archie Panjabi will be leaving "The Good Wife" after six seasons, EW has confirmed. The actress, who plays the fierce Kalinda Sharma on the CBS drama, has signed a talent deal with 20th Century TV, and will therefore not be staying on "The Good Wife" when her contract is up at the end of the season. The plan is for Panjabi to headline a drama pilot for 20th. “Archie is an Emmy award-winning dramatic actress, and rightly so,” said Sharon Klein, 20th’s executive vice president of casting. “Her work on The Good Wife has been extraordinary, and the time has come for her to star in a project of her own. We couldn’t be happier that it will be with us.” Added showrunners Robert and Michelle King: “Archie is an amazing actress who helped build Kalinda from the ground up as an enigmatic, powerful and sexy character. It’s been a pleasure to write for her, and we’ll be sad to see her go; but we still have her for the rest of season six, so let’s not exhaust our goodbyes yet. We look forward to meeting all the wonderful new characters Archie brings to the screen. But either way, we’re keeping the boots.” http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/10/15/ar...ing-good-wife/ |

"Kalinda remains a kickass and reliable investigator in impressive boots,” says Willa Paskin, "but it has been a long time since we saw her do anything besides track down impossible information and sexually appeal to everyone she encounters, of either gender. Six seasons in, it’s easy to imagine that an actress might be looking for something meatier to play than 'low-burn smoldering.’” PLUS: Season 4 was when Kalinda started becoming less interesting, and how should Kalinda exit? Archie Panjabi Decided To Leave "The Good Wife" after Kissing Gillian Anderson
The Huffington Post | by Lily Karlin 1/21/15 Archie Panjabi decided to leave "The Good Wife" because of a pretty intense kiss. Panjabi claims that while shooting a scene for another project -- BBC/Netflix series "The Fall" -- she realized her "Good Wife" character was creeping too much into her work. In the scene, co-star Gillian Anderson's character catches Panjabi's character off guard with a kiss. "When I was kissing her, Allan Cubitt, the show's creator and director, had to say, 'Archie, can you hold back?' because Gillian was supposed to take me by complete surprise," Panjabi said. "I didn't think that I was very forward in, but obviously after a while a character starts to affect you. I thought, 'Okay, I think it's time to go now.'" Panjabi's exit from "The Good Wife" was announced in October, along with the news that the star had inked a development deal with Twentieth Century Fox that included a plan for her to headline her own new drama pilot. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/0...n_6518542.html |

It's going to be a huge loss to the cast and I hope they give her a fitting exit. Kalinda isn't one of my favorite characters but she will be missed. I wonder how her exit (Kaliinda) will affect Cary?

"Kalinda believes it's the right time to leave," she says. "She's done all the things that she needs to do, so I believe it would be unlikely for her to come back, given the situation. But you never know with this one. She often surprises me, let alone the creators and the audience." |
