A lot of these 1960s shows, especially the early 1960s B&W stuff I liked as a child in the 1970s. Watched The Munsters, Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, Beverly Hillbillies. A lot of these shows I would not watch anymore. Simply outgrew a lot of these shows. I have watched Andy Griffith for almost 45 years, and know all the episodes. There were a lot of fantasy shows I liked then, but not now.

Dick Van Dyke Show was probably the most sophisticated program of the era, and it has really stood the test of time. I have said this before, but if you want to see how social mores is so much different then than now, on the Dick Van Dyke Show that Robert Petrie has a gorgeous wife 10 years younger than him, and they sleep in separate beds. Even in 1961, WTF? Ridiculous.

PJ was a great show; it was kind of a dramedy so yeah I didn't laugh out loud too much either. It was more of an inner chuckle, like in the opening when Kate snaps one of a Uncle Joe's suspenders to wake him up.

Bea Benaderat was fantastic as Kate. An extremely talented woman on many fronts. The show withered and died when she passed imo.

When I was a kid, growing up in the 1980s (I was born in '81), I thought married couples always slept in twin beds back in the 50s and 60s because of the sitcoms from that era.

It is so silly to think about people having a problem showing a married couple in bed together. I mean it's not like they were going to show them having sex or anything. Like what were people thinking back then when they made that decision?

I definitely prefer the 1970s as far as television goes.

I can see where TVFactFan is coming from. "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie" may be well-loved, but I preferred the realism of the 70s sitcoms.

Also it could be I just always have a bias in favor of sitcoms being videotaped in front of a studio audience as opposed to sitcoms being filmed in a studio with a laugh track.

The 70s had it's goodies too, no doubt about that. Two of my very favorite shows are from the 70s: All In The Family and Eight Is Enough.

But maybe because I was a kid the 60's shows and music have a more powerful memory and fondness to me than those of the 70's.

I think that has a lot to do with it.For me I was a kid of the 1970's so I had the best of both decades. I could enjoy the great sitcoms of the 70's at night and the great sitcoms of the 60's after school.

Although I do like MANY shows from other decades, the 90s shows (especially T.G.I.F. shows) will always be favorites of mine because I grew up with them. They were appointment viewing EVERY Friday and if I had to miss a Friday night it would make me mad.

I'm 32 now, so I was 8 when 1990 rolled around.

There are good shows from EVERY decade but the 60s are special to me. I find I watch much less TV since 2000. Some of my favs since 1980 on were Step By Step, Mams's Family, Reba, Sex And The City, Everybody alcoves Raymond, Will and Grace and The Office.

At the risk of going O/T, I love your av! Iola and Thelma were my favorite characters on Mama's Family. But poor Iola-always making goo goo eyes at Vinton and getting nowhere. Her arts and crafts creations were a hoot (mobile napkin holders made with toilet paper rolls lol). And I love it when she does her "knock knock"

I loved Mama's family too. Also Who's the boss, Mr. Belvedere, Newhart and some 90's Sabrina the teenage Witch . I liked King of Queens and more recent Mile and Molly. But my heart still belongs to the sitcoms of the 60's and 70's!!

Me too! The 60's sitcoms were so fun and innocent! But than one of my favorite sitcoms The Brady Bunch was from the 70's! But technically it started in late 1969!

In my opinion, the 1960s isn't the worst decade for television shows. Hell, the 1960s was still in the Golden Age of Television, so I wouldn't believe that stuff. There is no decade of which it had the worst television shows because that is an opinion to everybody and everybody has different opinions.
