Two and a Half Men, How I met your Mother, and Rules of Engagement had a character that's more of an ******* than Archie Bunker ever would be! I even tried to get Big Bang Theory, but Sheldon can be such a pain as well...but with characters like Gilligan, Agarn, Eldona, Jeanie, and Mr. Ed to name a few were jerks, but they were liked at the same time! 60's sitcom characters were likeable even when they ****ed many people off...00's characters that just did whatever...aren't! Give me Col. Hogan and Gomer Pyle over Barney Stinston and Charlie anyday! |

^^I agree with a lot of what MrCleveland just mentioned. That's another thing that also really stands out about 2000's TV in general, not only sitcoms. For the most part the characters are so unlikeable and annoying, and that's of course on top of everything else wrong with modern TV. 2000's TV is about as relaxing and entertaining as listening to a Jackhammer.

I love the 1960s sitcoms and think they were some of the best. The first four seasons of Bewitched were top notch. The first five seasons of Andy Griffith Show were top notch. First four seasons of Hazel were great. First three or four seasons of Petticoat Junction were fantastic and All of Green Acres was funny! Let's not forget Dick Van Dyke show. Definitely not a show with a kiddie theme. Very sophisticated comedy there.

Of course, this whole thing is very subjective, so most everyone will have a different opinion on this, probably dependent on when one grew up and what shows one grew up with. For myself, I love a number of TV shows, ranging from the start of television (back to the earliest test pattern broadcasts of Felix the Cat) on through the '40s, '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s- by the '90s, 2000s and 2010s, I find that my list of loved shows is much, much shorter- though there are still a few good things here and there. |

To be fair, the '80s did at least produce Cheers, without which the '90s wouldn't have had Frasier.

Many 80's sitcoms had family shows again, not only The Cosby Show, but Gimme a Break!, Mr. Belvedere, Who's the Boss, and Too Close for Comfort. Then there were buddy shows like Cheers, Night Court, Facts of Life, Bosom Buddies, and Newhart to name a few. There were characters who were *******s in the 80's sitcoms as well like Dan Fielding in Night Court and the cast of Cheers, but like the 60's characters that I mentioned...were STILL likable...okay I dunno about Dan Fielding. And there wasn't many sex jokes like Two and a Half Men! |
