Default What Disney is doing to Spider-Man is HORRIFYING

http://moviepilot.com/posts/2014/09/...ifying-2296000

Quote:
It's safe to say that many Spider-Man fans are asking for a film crossover with the Avengers. Unfortunately, Sony is quite adamant about keeping the rights, so that is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

On the other hand, we are getting a different Spider-Man crossover soon. The only problem is: it is a crossover with a tween sitcom that nobody outside of preschool is asking for.

Today, TV Guide reported that on Friday, October 10, cable network Disney XD will air a crossover special entitled: Jessie and Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. The special will cross the popular Ultimate Spider-Man show on Disney XD with the nausea-inducing tween girl sitcom Jessie on the Disney Channel.

Now, in the past, Disney has done a crossover with Phineas and Ferb and the Marvel universe with Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel. However, the humorous sci-fi/fantasy tone of Phineas and Ferb was a perfect fit for the Marvel universe.

Jessie, on the other hand, is a plastic tween sitcom about a girl living in New York city in a penthouse suite. The show is nothing but teen girls and kids wearing 15 pounds of makeup and telling horribly corny jokes to a non-existent audience of canned laughter. It has cheesy acting, unlikable characters, and even tasteless jokes. Plus, it has a character that is nothing more than a shallow Indian stereotype. It is the kind of Barbie-doll show that is a complete waste of airtime and contributes nothing to audiences.

Now, on what planet does a privileged girl living in a New York penthouse tie into the Marvel Universe? This would be like if Marvel did a crossover with Hannah Montana; there are little to no elements of fantasy on the show to mix with the escapist tone of the Marvel Universe. Plus, it is a cheap attempt to get the female audience to view the show on Disney XD. It robs the show of credibility, as comic book fans now have to accept that the cast of Jessie exists in the universe of Ultimate Spider-Man.

Hopefully, this special will be a one-shot deal, and there will be no future crossovers with the Marvel Universe. Perhaps the special will tank so badly, that Disney Channel COMPLETELY separates itself from the beloved Spider-Man franchise.

Oh No

I'm sooooo going to write to Disney to have Mickey Mouse as the spokesperson of The "Disney" Channel and Donald Duck be the spokesperson of Disney XD!

Why hasn't Disney gave Donald Duck a chance? His comics overseas about being The Duck Avenger and DD Duck (James Bond spoof) would be ideal for Disney XD!

This is why I've always considered Disney programs for pansies, will this crossover be live action mixed with animation?

Wouldn't it make more logical sense (outside of the New York connection from Jessie) to cross-promote w/ Mighty Med or Lab Rats (since both shows are actually about super-powered young people too)?

Mighty Med and Lab Rats would both make for neat crossover episodes with Marvel characters. (Not that I'm necessarily looking for that or wanting that.)
I don't think Jessie is as bad as TMC's blog post quote makes it out to be.
It's certainly not really a favorite show for me or anything, but I watch it every now and then at times. And a Spider-Man crossover would definitely get me interested in watching just for the Spider-Man part.
But as far as concerns of Spidey crossing over with a Disney sitcom aimed at kids, I don't think it's a concern. Spider-Man has probably done more crossovers than most any other Marvel character (which makes sense as he's one of the flagship characters) and he's met up with way more far out characters than Jessie. (For just a few highlights- he's the one who usually winds up doing crossover appearances with Howard the Duck, Power Pack, Man-Thing, etc. - just to name a few lesser known Marvel characters. Beyond those, he's also met up with Sledge Hammer, the 1978 Saturday Night Live cast, Ren & Stimpy [and Powdered Toast Man!] and Sam the Robot from Sesame Street- not to mention the cast of The Electric Company, of course.)
Meeting a young 20-something female nanny and the kids she watches is fairly mild compared to some of the others he's run into over the years.
